Happy 2022 my amazing blogger family! It has officially been a hot minute since I have shared a new blog post and I wanted to say thank you for sticking by me while I took some time off for personal reasons.
Yesterday was an absolutely beautiful day here filled with sunshine and warmth. Getting out to take the photos for this post was good for my soul. My friends at Lane Bryant asked me to create some outfits from their new arrivals & show you what I am currently loving. This post is sponsored by Lane Bryant but all opinions are my own, as always.
There’s a lot of theory behind colour which I would love to learn someday but to hear that something that is in the family of my favourite colour “displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expressions” makes me excited and hopeful for the rest of the year ahead.
First let’s talk colours. Pantone made my year when they announced that Very Peri was the colour of the year. It’s described as encompassing the colours of the blue family but with a violet red undertone.
This combined with all the fresh shades of coral and pink plus the lime green has given me a palette that I can’t wait to wear. And with spring around the corner it’s the perfect time to invest in some new pieces. And as we have more reasons to go out and enjoy the world it might just brighten your day.
When I create outfits for this time of year I always work with layers because around here you never know what the temperature is going to be from one hour to the next. Light layers are perfect for when you get hot or cold. They also help you get more wear out of pieces that you would wear on their own when spring finally arrives. This gives you more bang for your buck.
This dress caught my attention because of its bold striped print and the juxtaposition of the cool blues with the warm corals and pinks. And vertical stripes are always a no brainer in my books, they make me feel taller.
Combine the above with this ruched side silhouette from Lane Bryant that has become a signature for them and you have curves for days. You might remember the olive animal print one I wore in the fall. This one has 3/4 sleeves and a midi length. They also have ones with short sleeves right now and I hope to see a sleeveless option for summer. And if you love the print but aren’t a dress person then they have a cute top that is also available in this print.
I pushed up the sleeves for a more modern vibe and I keep my ruching lower so I can wear chafing shorts but you can bare some more leg, it’s up to you. I love the surplice neckline and the elastic at the waist sits perfectly in the back giving my booty amazing definition. I am wearing a size 30/32.
I think you know that I can’t resist a good cardigan so when I saw this lightweight hacci style in this pinky coral colour I knew I wanted to play up those colours against the blues and elevate the contrast. Unfortunately this cardigan has sold out but I am sharing a link for an alternative that will also achieve the same look. I am wearing the 30/32 and I found it to be a little smaller than normal for Lane Bryant. I think it is because the cut is more straight and narrow.
To complete the look I played with contrast a little more by adding these blush sling back sandals from Lane Bryant. I have to say that I was pretty disappointed with the fit of these shoes. I got a 9W which I normally do and the fit was very small compared to what I typically get from Lane Bryant. The width is quite narrow in my opinion. These faux suede earrings, silver bangles and a bag from my personal collection were just the right finishing touches.
Someone recently asked me what I recommend if you want to try wearing bold colours or prints but you are afraid to. In this case I would suggest letting the dress speak for itself and keeping everything else neutral – both black and tan would be great options. And for right now a cute bootie will look amazing for colder days.
So tell me are you excited for spring? What pieces are you looking for right now? Stay tuned for another post tomorrow with a more casual look from Lane Bryant.
