Happy Tuesday my amazing blogger family, I hope you are all doing well and staying safe as life starts to look a little more normal as we head into summer. I know I have been quiet the last little while but life has thrown me a few unexpected curve balls that I needed to focus on.
Since I still owe you some dresses I was excited when LANE BRYANT asked me if I would share some of my faves from their summer collection. This post is sponsored by LANE BRYANT but all opinions are my own as always.
It’s a hard call for me to say which season I love more, spring or summer but I definitely love all the dresses that come with both of them. And as we move into the hottest months of the year I love embracing the bright colours and prints that just scream summer. Fortunately LANE BRYANT has that covered and I am happy to report that all of these options are available in extended sizes up to a size 40.
When I was checking out the summer collection you could definitely see that stripes are a must have trend. You can find them in all different widths and styles so there is something for everyone.
I know stripes can be intimidating for many of us, especially if you have been told your whole life to not wear them that they make you look bigger. But honestly who came up with that stupid rule anyways? And more importantly who says we have to follow it!
So in this post I decided to dispel this silly myth and show you 3 ways you can rock stripes this summer while looking and feel fabulous. Fashion is supposed to be fun so don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone.
For this first look, I chose a racer back midi length dress with a wide chevron stripe. Chevron stripes are your secret weapon when it comes to wearing stripes because they draw the eye in towards your smallest part and provide visual interest.
The combination of warm sunny yellow, coral & shades of cool blue & white scream summer and look great on most skin tones. Plus there are so many different ways to style a dress like this. And the soft lightweight jersey fabric will keep you cool on the hottest of days. I am wearing the 30/32.
I always love a v-neck and the racer back is a great way to change things up while still keeping it bra friendly. The elastic detail at the waist helps define your shape and you can even give it a bloused effect if you wanted.
I paired this dress with this super cute denim jacket that is part of LANE BRYANT’s Pride collection. I liked that the paint splatter was not your typical rainbow but still represents Pride. I am obsessed with the cropped length which hits me perfectly, the white buttons and the frayed hem. And I am proud to partner with brands like LANE BRYANT who as part of their Pride celebrations, are donating $30,000 to GLSEN, a nonprofit dedicated to LGBTQ‑inclusivity for children in schools.
I think you know by now that it wouldn’t be a LANE BRYANT post without their shoes & accessories. I am obsessed with these new slide sandals that are blinged out! They also come in rainbow which is part of their Pride collection, silver and animal print. I love that they have a rubber sole but the fabric underneath against your feet is nice and soft & they are fully adjustable. I sized down to the 8 in these since I can adjust the straps. I love the rose gold ones so much I wore them with each look. And how fun are these sunnies?
For the second look I decided to put a romper to the test and I have to say I love it! The fit is very similar to the jumpsuit I tried back in February when they first released their extended sizes. I know a few of you that are the same shape as me were concerned about your bootie fitting but it actually fits our shape perfectly. I am wearing the 30/32.
I was so drawn to this colour combination because I loved the soft green and blue combined with a punch of coral/red. The thin vertical stripes give it a soft sophisticated feel the ruching detail at the sleeves allows you to adjust the arm coverage to your preference.
You could easily dress this up with heels and metallic accessories for a perfect patio date night look or keep it casual like I did here with the slides, earrings & colourful bracelets. And pro tip, if you are worried about chafing don’t forget your chafe stick or wear a pair of lightweight chafing shorts.
For this final look I chose a LANE BRYANT cult classic, their multi way dress. As much as I like buying statement pieces I also love having options in my closet that are versatile. And that’s why this has become such a customer favourite. You can wear it as a traditional bra friendly strap, one shoulder, strapless or off the shoulder.
It also comes in different lengths, & solids and prints. I wanted to try something different so I went with the short straight silhouette. And yep these are bold horizontal stripes! And the funny thing is, I saw the pictures and was like this dress looks amazing. It just goes to show you that rules are meant to be broken. I also love the ruffle at the neckline. It’s flirty & feminine. I am wearing the 30/32 in this as well.
I went with all red accessories for this look because I love a good red moment and these sandals were the perfect neutral to complete it. Which neckline is your favourite? Make sure you let me know in the comments below.
So tell me, do you like stripes? Do you wear stripes? Do you want to wear stripes but are afraid to? Let’s talk about it below!
