Happy Tuesday my amazing blogger family, how is your week going so far? As always I hope you are doing well and staying safe. And please be careful out there as the world starts to reopen. We had some major thunderstorms today but nothing can stop my over the moon happiness today – I am getting my hair done after four long months!! Stay tuned for the results 😉
Summer has certainly kicked off with some hot and humid weather so it’s the perfect time to share the next post in my tropical print series sponsored by Catherines. We definitely need looks that will keep us feeling cool right now. While this post is sponsored, all opinions are my own, as always.
For today’s look I wanted to show you a more casual look and how you can incorporate a little bit of tropical print withoutty it being overwhelming. This way you can still wear on trend pieces while maintaining your personal style.
I also wanted to highlight one of my favourite colours for the summer – aqua. I love this dreamy pastel shade, it reminds me of the beautiful crystal clear Caribbean waters that I love to swim in on vacation. Different colours evoke different emotions for me, this look is definitely calming. Do any of you relate to colour like I do?
I should take a poll – how many of you are surprised to see me in capris lol? I know you don’t see me not wearing dresses in the summer very often but I do like the ease and comfort of a good fitting capri or short.
The operative word here is a good fit! I think I don’t wear them as often as I would because it is so hard for me to find a great fit. Between my pear shape and my lipedema bump on my calves it certainly is a challenge. Usually the back rise is too low and the waist is too big or the bottom opening isn’t wide enough to fit over my calf bumps.
But these Essential Flat Front Twill capris have a great fit and I couldn’t be happier. Even though they are twill they are made with extra stretch which gives you added comfort. I love the flat front because it is clean and the pockets don’t bulge. The thicker elastic waist is covered in the front and it helps eliminate any gap in the back. And the strap inset at the hem is not only a cute detail but functional because it gives more room for my calve bumps. And for my shorter babes, these also come in petite length.
This sleeveless gauze blouse immediately caught my eye when I was scrolling through the Catherines website. I love the contrast of the black with the aqua but the white also softens it. Gauze is such a great fabric for summer because it doesn’t wrinkle and is lightweight and breezy. With its darts at the bust and pleated botch neckline it still gives you a pretty feminine shape and feel. And it has side slits which are a must have for me. I am wearing the 4x and had lots of room. This also comes in petites. Catherines hands down has one of the biggest selections of petite options I have ever seen.
To layer or not to layer…is entirely up to you! I always like to show you options. You might recognize this cardigan from my last post because it is the same one but in black. I liked how it has the same strappy detail as the capris. If you wanted a lighter airier look then I would get this in white.
These beaded statement earrings and coordinating bracelet also from Catherines were perfect for this look. I love the pop of colour and they are so light weight. And a Catherines look wouldn’t be complete without an OrthoLite sandal. I chose these ones to continue with the strappy details. You could also easily pair this with a white slide. And to pull the look all together I added a trendy macrame tote and matching aqua sunnies.
The amazing summer sale is still on at Catherines and capris & shorts; tops & tanks and over pieces are all on sale for $19.99 each. So would you wear this look? How do you feel about tropical prints? Leave me a comment and let me know what you think. I am definitely going to wear this on my next outings to the farmer’s market and lunch on the patio.
