Happy Sunday blogger fam, how is everyone doing? Are you hanging in there? I hope so! I am doing ok, I finally started sleeping again so that has been a god send, I was completely exhausted.
Today I am back with my second post in partnership with Catherines that I had planned for March. And once again I want to say thank you to Catherines for continuing your support and creating an amazing sense of community on your platforms during these difficult times. All opinions are my own as always.
The outfits I chose for this post are a complete 180 from the last ones and I did that intentionally. I have a large variety of styles that I like to wear and I always want to encourage you to try something new and step outside of your comfort zone. And maybe I just like to keep you on your toes lol ๐
Our theme for today is two more popular trends for spring – neutral colours and stripes. I don’t know if stripes ever really go out of style but they are really out in full force this year. And neutrals are always here to stay as an integral component of any wardrobe. It’s all about how you make them feel fresh and new.
I always jump at the chance to feature a great outfit with stripes because it gives me the chance to remind you that plus size women CAN wear stripes! In fact we rock them! I have always hated the idea that we shouldn’t wear them because they draw too much attention or that the world is going to end if we wear horizontal stripes. If our current situation has taught us anything I hope it is that there are more important things to worry about and we have one life to live so embrace all of it.
When I first saw the dress in this first look it immediately gave me a beach and nautical feeling. I could imagine myself on a boardwalk breathing in the ocean air and taking in the amazing view. There is something so calming to me about being near water.
With the weather getting warmer we are starting to see pieces made from linen come out. They are perfect for warmer weather as it is a natural fabric that is breathable. There have also been a lot of advancements in making it a washable option and having less wrinkles.
This dress is a great option that will carry you all the way to fall. I love the ease of a simple silhouette like this, it is a slight a-line with a scoop neck and pockets. You could easily layer a t-shirt underneath it for a different feel. Since I knew that this dress wasn’t going to have a lot of stretch and because of the pockets, I sized up to a 5x to accommodate my hips. I was glad I did so that I was still able to get that airy loose feeling I wanted without it being too big on top.
What really sets this dress apart is the interesting layout of the stripes in multiple directions. It gives it visual interest and the seams are strategically placed to give it a flattering fit. And the soft blue and crisp white are the perfect colour combo. I layered it with this white denim jacket to keep the look casual but polished. I love the unique embroidery detail at the collar and the longer length with a curved hem. I rolled up the sleeve to add to the casual vibe. I also got a 5x in this because of the longer length.
This second look features one of my favourite dress silhouettes being a maxi with a v-neck wrap bodice and sleeveless but bra friendly. This dress is the ultimate in versatility. Dress it up or down, for work or play it does it all. And the bold stripe says I am here looking and feeling great.
This colour combination is definitely not something I typically wear, I mean brown is the one colour I really don’t like. But I decided to embrace it with this look and even played it up with my accessories. I am wearing my normal 4x in this dress. And it doesn’t have pockets which personally makes me quite happy. It is available up to a 6x and in petites too.
I paired it with this cute little cardigan in a cappuccino colour. The 3/4 sleeve with the cuff and button are really nice details that make it feel more like a jacket. I am wearing the 4x. And did you check out the shoes I am wearing with both these looks? They are also from Catherines and I can’t tell you how super comfortable they are. I have a had time with the footbed of Birkenstock’s but these felt like butter with the same feel.
As for my accessories, once again I was able to do some one stop shopping with Catherines and their amazing jewelry selection. And this year they even started carrying sunnies, aren’t these ones so fab? Both my bags are from my personal collection.
So the same questions apply to this post as the last. Which look is your fave and why? Do you see yourself wearing stripes? And what would you like to see me try next from Catherines?
