Happy Tuesday blogger fam, how is your November going so far? Can you believe we already second week? I keep saying it, but man this fall is flying by and I am not prepared for another tax season to be just around the corner. Has anyone started their Christmas shopping? Do you have anything special on your wish list this year? Leave me a comment and share the details, I could use some gift giving inspiration.
So this week I am going to do something a little different and give you two shorter posts with some fab photos. And let me tell you this first look is certainly a different one for me which I am super excited about. 2019 has definitely been an interesting year for plus size fashion. I think it is safe to say we have seen more new plus size brands and straight size brands launch plus sizes then we have ever seen before. Brands like Anthropologie, Nike, 11 Honore, Henning and many others have made big names for themselves. But I have to say I have personally been underwhelmed.
I was visiting a friend on Sunday that is also in the plus size space and she asked me what brand I thought was one to watch and what had happened this year that I was most excited about. And there was a long moment of silence as I honestly couldn’t give her an answer that I was passionate about. Because while I am excited about what I have been seeing I continue to be disappointed with nothing launching in my size. So while I have friends, family, colleagues and followers that are excited about how they have so many new shopping options, I still feel left out. I honestly have to say I feel ripped off. Most days I don’t let it phase me but then there are the days where I feel like my dollars aren’t wanted and people think I don’t deserve to wear fashionable trendy clothing because of my size.
That is why I was so excited when an email from ASOS showed up in my inbox announcing a collaboration with Christian Cowan. After all Christian Cowan is a world famous fashion designer who shows at NYFW and is known for dressing celebrities from Lady Gaga, to Beyonce, Miley Cyrus and Cardi B. Here is a little bit about his design aesthetic from his website:
“With a youthful take on how the modern day women can dress, Christian Cowan uses his lively spirit and creative prowess in making his standout designs. With an affinity for unique materials such as vinyl, feathers, mesh, and sequin – Christian Cowan takes classic silhouettes and transforms them into something truly head turning.”
I have to say when I clicked on the link in the email to check out the collection I was fully expecting that nothing would be available in plus sizes. I had prepared myself to be disappointed so when I saw the curve icon show up on some of the pieces I was honestly shocked. My next step is to check out the size offering because ASOS only offers a limited selection of pieces in a US size 26. I am happy to say that the selection keeps getting bigger and better. Well you can imagine my surprise when I saw that the plus size pieces were offered up to a US size 26! It was time for me to go shopping!
If I am completely honest, is Christian’s aesthetic completely reflected in the collection? I would say NO. Is it reflective of my personal style? It’s not likely my go to but I like to experiment and grow within my style so I could see myself wearing it. What was disappointing? Out of a 50 piece collection that includes shoes and accessories, only 9 pieces were made in plus sizes. More thoughts on this in the next post…
What I will say is that I put my dollars where my mouth is and so I will give any brand a try that makes my size. Because in the end that is what will show brands that we do want wear kick ass clothes and we have money to spend. And I love to show someone how good their clothes can look on my size 28 frame.
So having said that, this suit is not for the faint of heart or someone who doesn’t love colour. I love the combination of the lilac with the racer black and white checker board pattern. I am wearing the size 26 in both pieces and the fit was pretty good but in the end I really wish the pants came in a size 28. To keep the look clean I paired it with a simple white t-shirt and white block heels. But my accessories are a different story, my earrings and bag are also from ASOS. And the clutch is from the collection too. I am completely obsessed with it, it is totally my aesthetic and makes a big statement.
Leave me a comment and let me know what you think. And tell me which designers do you wish made your size? Would you spend the money if they made their size? I can’t wait to hear what you think and wait to see what other look I chose in my next post.
