Happy Halloween everyone, I hope you having an awesome day. For those of you with children, I hope it is full of fun and you survive the candy rush. For those who are kids at heart and love the day, have a blast and stay safe. And for those who are like me and not a huge fan, I hope you enjoy your quiet time.
My treat for you today is the final instalment of my 3 part series I am doing in partnership with Catherines. I hope you have enjoyed seeing 3 blog posts in 3 days and more details on how I put together these dress looks from their latest collection of new arrivals. So while this series of posts is sponsored, all opinions are my own and always will be.
There are so many different fashion trends this fall that it is hard to say which ones are my favourite, I feel like I am loving them all.
If I had to choose something that is most popular right now I think it is animal print. Animal prints have always been an integral part of the fashion landscape, many people consider them to be neutrals that go with everything.
But this fall it is bigger and better than ever before. We are seeing so many different types of animal print from cheetah to zebra to snake. It’s big and bold and I don’t think it’s going anywhere anytime soon. People are mixing their animal prints, interjecting fun and unexpected colours and using it as punchy accent.
My personal style has really evolved in the last year when it comes to embracing animal prints. When I look back I can’t really say why I wasn’t a fan of them. Sometimes I think it is because I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s and there was some really tacky looking animal print being worn, like I mean really bad.
But as with all trends that come back in style, I really feel the fabrics and styles have evolved and you can find some many pieces that are sophisticated and fashion forward.
So what if you are not a fan of animal print but still want to feel like you are on trend? I think a little can go a long way so maybe you add an animal print shoe or bag or scarf to an otherwise monochromatic look. This will give it some visual interest and the item will really pop against the rest of the look.
If you haven’t figured out by now I chose an animal print dress for this final look. My favourite thing about this look is its versatility. You could wear this dress anywhere – work, date night, brunch, out with the girls or for traveling. It is a more classic grey and black palette so while the print is trendy the dress itself is a wardrobe staple.
The dress is made of a lightweight knit fabric, has a scoop neckline and a classic A-line silhouette. The dress only flares out gradually so it has more of a straight line feel which I like because it accommodates my hips. That is one of the things I really love about Catherines designs. They put a lot of care and thought into designing for a plus size body.
I am wearing my typical size 4x and I found the fit to be really generous. If you want it to be more form fitting I would size down. You could also add a belt to define your waist.
I wanted to play off another hot trend for fall so I paired the dress with this faux leather moto style jacket. Faux leather is something we are seeing everywhere from dresses to pants to tops. The moto is a classic and a great piece to have in your closet. I like the clean lines of this one and the collarless neckline. I also like the longer length for something different as many moto jackets are cropped. Paired with the dress, it’s give the whole look a street vibe and some edge.
You could wear a flat or a heel with look but to keep with the edgier vibe I was going for I added these black booties. I love the combination of faux leather and suede for additional texture and like the brown booties from yesterday they are super comfortable and supportive. The support that is built into Catherines shoes is another thoughtful design choice, especially for the price point.
For accessories I decided to keep with my neutral palette with these grey marbled stone earrings and stone bracelet that is adjustable for a perfect fit. Of course they are from Catherines too! I ventured away from my normal path by adding this deep emerald green bag from my collection. Typically I would go with red or burgundy but I loved the green for something different. A bright pop of blue would also look great.
So tell me what do you think? Would you rock this look? Which one of the 3 is your fave? Leave me a comment below. I hope you enjoyed this series and if you want to see more then please let me know. Thanks Catherines!
