Happy Wednesday blogger family, I am officially in vacation mode as I fly to NYC tomorrow, woohoo! It’s been a really crazy month, but I definitely feel accomplished and ready to tackle November. And I am doing a top secret project while in NYC so you better stay tuned. Is everyone ready for Halloween? I am clearly skipping it this year lol.
Well its a new day so you know that means it is time for the next instalment of my 3 part series I am doing in partnership with Catherines. That’s right, you are getting 3 blog posts in 3 days and I am going to show you how I put together 3 amazing dress looks from their latest collection of new arrivals. So while this series of posts is sponsored, all opinions are my own and always will be.
So what does everyone think of the first look? Do you love wearing black? Do you prefer colour? Would you wear this dress with the bold stripes? How would you accessorize it? I want to hear it all so leave me a comment. I promise I will respond!
One of this fall’s hottest trends is rich jewel tones. I like to think of one of my favourite things when I refer to this, naturally bling! I have always had a love of coloured stones like amethyst, emerald, ruby, tanzanite, blue topaz, and sapphire. They are so opulent and have an air of sophistication to them. I think wearing them gives you the same effect. And I am fortunate enough to be able to wear most colours with my complexion.
Another popular trend for Fall is turtlenecks and mock necks, basically anything with a high neckline. I have to admit that I usually shy away from high necklines because I feel claustrophobic in them but sometimes I can handle a cowl neck or a loose mock neck. I really do wish I could wear a turtleneck because there are so many cute options out right now. What about you, do you like to wear turtlenecks? Or are you like me?
When I was putting this second look together I decided to play off of both of these trends. This dress comes in a wine colour as well as this gorgeous hunter green and I had a hard time choosing which colour to get. And now I just checked out the website and I see it comes in navy too. I ended up choosing the green because I thought it would really make my eyes pop.
This is the “Greenpoint Maxi Dress” and it has a number of great features that I have come to know and love in Catherines dresses. It is made of a super soft jersey fabric that is stretchy and oh so comfortable. It has princess seaming down the front to give it great shape and movement (you will definitely want to do a couple of twirls in this!) and 3/4 length sleeves. Oh and did I mention it has pockets? Well yep it has my fave side seam pockets too.
The description on the website says that this is a turtleneck but I would definitely say it is more of a mock neck. And it is a loose one, I actually found this very comfortable to wear. It is available in sizes 0X to 6X in regular lengths and 0X to 3X in petites. I am wearing the size 4x in regular length and I have to say the length of this dress is my one complaint. I am 5’6 and it isn’t floor length on me. But if you look at the model on website it hits them at the ankle. I am thinking this is because my booty is taking up some of the length. So if you are between petites and regular and have any kind of booty and want the dress to be full length I would stick to the regular length.
So you might be looking at this outfit and say to yourself Lisa, is that another kimono you are wearing? And I would have to confess and say yes it is and clearly I have a problem lol! But what can I say, when something works, it works. Being stylish isn’t always about being different. Its also about finding pieces that work for you – whether its your body type, your job or your lifestyle. I tend to have a pretty easy recipe when it comes to my work looks. Over the years I have learned what will get me through a long day while still feeling great.
And I have to say that I personally think this kimono gives this look a very different feel because it is a cozy sweater knit. It gives you the feel of wearing a cozy sweater without all the bulk and is perfect for layering. I am obsessed with the wavy stripe print in the different shades of purple and green. This piece will definitely be on heavy rotation in my wardrobe this fall and winter. It is a one size piece but the fit is very generous. My Mom tried to steal it and it is too big for her, sorry Mom! If you want to change things up, this dress would also look amazing with a denim jacket or vest.
Yesterday I talked about my struggle with shoes and today it is going to be my struggle with boots. I can’t wear tall boots because I have yet to find a pair that fit my calf because of my lipedema bump. Some day I know I will find them. So in the meantime I wear booties which thankfully wearing booties with dresses actually keeps me right on trend. I don’t tend to buy brown shoes or boots but I saw that they had styled this dress with brown boots on the website so I decided to give these a try. I really love the rich shade of chocolate brown and the fit is perfect. I am wearing the size 9W and there is plenty of room at the ankle and I had no trouble zipping it up. The sturdy rubber sole is perfect for my troublesome feet and still lets me feel cute. I do size up a half size when it comes to boots so that I can wear a heavier sock.
I couldn’t resist the sparkle and shine of these earrings and bracelet from Catherines. They have so many beautiful jewelry pieces out right now, I almost couldn’t choose. But they do sell out quickly so you better grab something if you like it sooner rather than later. And of course I couldn’t have chosen a more perfect bag for this outfit if I tried. This bag is everything with this look. And yes I am sorry it is not available anymore!
Well peeps that is a wrap on this post and this look. Let me know what you think, I think it is obvious from the photos how much I love it. See you again tomorrow!
