Happy Labour Day my amazing blog family, I hope you have enjoyed the last long weekend of the summer. I can’t believe it’s officially September and kids go back to school here tomorrow. My favourite season is almost over and you will have to bear with me as I shed a tear.
But I do know how much many of you love Fall fashion so don’t worry, I have you covered. We are going to start things off with a couple of great transitional looks in my monthly feature with Woman Within. This post is sponsored but as always, all opinions are my own.
Before I get started I did want to say that I am sorry my blog posts haven’t been as frequent as you are used to. When I was in Atlanta for the TCF Style Expo someone asked me about it and I honestly felt bad because I never want to disappoint you guys. As you know I have had a lot of change in my life this past year and my new job has been really busy so it has been hard to find the time to write as much as I would like. As I am almost through my first year, I hope that I will find more time for the blog this fall.
I hope you guys understand and know that even if content is sponsored here, I only feature clothes and brands I truly love. As my brand grows, that is going to be the reality but I am always investing in clothing I have purchased personally and will continue to do so but in the last few months that content has been on Instagram. But don’t worry, I have plans to bring it back here as you know and love. So thank you for your patience while I try to manage it all.
September is a weird month weather wise as you will still see some really warm temperatures and then you will have random cooler days as well as some rain to contend with. So it can definitely be a challenge to figure out what to wear. That’s why I like to invest in good transitional pieces that can handle whatever the weather throws our way but still look cute and stylish.
And for all my fellow babes who run hot like I do, I can’t deal with the chunky sweaters, jackets and boots yet. Who’s with me? So instead I opt for some lightweight layers and short sleeves. My philosophy is you can always put on or take off a layer but if you go straight for the heavy pieces you can’t exactly go naked lol. And let me tell you a hot and sweaty Lisa is not a good look and I end up being very cranky.
I also hear from a lot of you that live in warmer climates and the weather doesn’t really cool down for another few months (so jealous of all of you BTW) and you still want to change up your wardrobe to make it feel like fall but it has to be practical. This I totally get!
So in my last Woman Within post, I introduced you to the crinkle dress, a Woman Within cult favourite. They make this dress for all seasons so I decided to show you a different style this month with more of a fall vibe to it.
A lot of people look at florals as a spring and summer print but last fall we saw a huge trend of darker florals for fall and winter and that trend is definitely continuing for this year. A floral print with a darker background like black will instantly give you a cooler weather vibe.
We are also seeing a lot of shades of lavender and lilac and purples for fall as well as various shades of yellow like ochre and citron. And red is always a classic colour for fall that you can never go wrong with. So when I saw the print on this dress I was immediately drawn to the contrast of the rich black and the bright punchy colours of the floral. It’s so visually interesting to look at it and provides you with so many styling options.
This style is a basic short sleeve maxi with a flared skirt that creates a beautiful shape and movement. I love the modest v-neckline that brings attention to your face and just overall how easy a piece it is to wear. I am wearing the size 30/32 which is my typical Woman Within size and the fit was spot on.
I decided to wear the dress as is but it would also look great with a denim jacket, a shrug, a cardigan or even a casual blazer over top. And if you wanted to define your waist more I think it would look great with a belt.
To complete the look I added accessories in the bright primary colours from the print. Mules are a huge trend this fall and I think they are a great transitional shoe because you can go bare foot, have the feel of a sandal but the look of a closed toe shoe. These red mules are from Woman Within but I got them last fall. Unfortunately they don’t have a red pair out right now but I gave you the link to a beautiful mustard pair that I have my eye on that would also look great with this dress. I then chose my yellow bamboo bag and some red marbled earrings.
For this second look I chose my favourite piece of clothing, a maxi dress but in a really rich colour palette that screams I am ready for fall and bring on those pumpkin spice lattes (which I don’t like BTW!, please don’t hate me!). I am absolutely obsessed with this print. It has this ombré dot effect to it that is almost mesmerizing when you look at it. It also comes in a blue and a black colour story and I think I totally need another one.
I love the details on this dress from the scoop neckline to the banded waist that emphasizes my shape and the beautiful pleating at the neckline and waist. It’s a different style for Woman Within and a new fave for me. I am also wearing the 30/32 in this and it fits perfectly.
Since this dress is sleeveless I wanted to add a layer for when the temperature drops, particularly at night and this jean jacket was the perfect choice. I love that there are so many more colour options these days when it comes to denim jackets and this dark berry adds a touch of richness that fall colours are known for. Not to mention it coordinates perfectly with the dress. I am wearing the size 34 to accommodate my hips. It gives the look a more casual vibe.
To accessorize this look I added these berry colour sling backs from Woman Within that are a combination of suede and leather and they have a fun gold stud detail on the heel. The colour is definitely more purple in real life then what you see on the website just so you know. I love these shoes and they are definitely going to get a lot of use this fall. I wanted to play with the other colours in the print too so I chose this soft peach colour bag from my collection and a fun yellow earring for a contrasting pop of colour.
So there you have it, my take on how to transition to fall outfits when you are quite ready for it. And the great news? Woman Within is having an amazing sale right now and you can grab these pieces for such a deal.
