Happy Tuesday my loyal blogger fam, I hope this last week before Christmas is going well for you! A little bit of panic officially set in for me last night as I realized how much I still have to do both at work and at home. But I can be a last minute nelly and thankfully I thrive under pressure so here’s wishing me luck lol. Are any of you like me? How do you cope?
Today’s post is a celebration of one of the favourite new pieces of clothing I added to my wardrobe this fall – this faux fur jacket in the most amazing shade of lilac from my ELOQUII family. That’s right, they are like family to me. I think by now it is clear how much I love ELOQUII for so many different reasons but at this time of year I want to give a special thank you to every single person on their team who takes the time to work and collaborate with me. This is not a sponsored post, it is just my way of showing my gratitude. Thank you team ELOQUII, I wish you all a wonderful holiday season!
This jacket was another piece that I got a sneak peek of at the September preview event. With lilac being the Pantone colour of the year for 2018, it was no surprise that they decided to go bold with this piece. The fur on this jacket is incredibly soft, you can’t help but keep touching it over and over again. I personally think they got the shade of lilac just perfect. Overall the jacket definitely has that nod to the 80’s and 90’s, decades where I would have been petrified to wear something like this so thank god fashion trends come back in style because I missed out!
The jacket is fully lined and has great sturdy hook and eye closures. I am wearing the size 26/28 and I do wish it was a little roomier. I am personally not a fan of split sizing especially when you are at the top of the size range. But don’t you worry I let them know what I thought lol. Realistically this is not a piece I am going to wear closed so it still works for my lifestyle.
When I saw all of the other pieces that they released this fall I was excited to see that I had several options that I could pair with this jacket. It’s one thing for a brand to make a statement piece like this jacket but if they don’t make anything that coordinates with it, it can be difficult to find something that works with it or you could be relegated to wearing basic black which is so not my thing.
If you follow me over on Instagram then you may have already seen this jacket and the sequin skirt, as I wore them to the Malia Indigo Plus Size Fashion Show Toronto in November. I know I have a winner when my outfit is the talk of the event, including straight size designers in attendance.
These 3 looks represent different facets of my style – one is totally girly and feminine, one is sparkle with an edge and one is perfect for the office. You will have to tell me which one is your favourite by leaving a comment below.
For the girly feminine look I couldn’t resist choosing this accordion pleated chiffon midi dress. I mean come on, this is a wow dress. Between the colour, the sheer fabric with the matching lining to the bow detail at the neckline and the sleeves how could I even begin to resist? The sleeves are really interesting because they are a total wow factor but they are surprisingly comfortable and not awkward. They used a bendable wire to create the effect which allows you to reshape them as needed and makes them functional.
My complaint on this dress is that the lining was way too tight on me but the actual dress itself is very generous. I loved the dress too much not to make it work so I cut out the lining and I wore a simple ivory slip dress I had in my closet underneath. I am wearing the size 26/28 and there was a lot of room in this dress. You definitely need the belt to create the right shape.
I chose to pair it with accessories in varying shades of purple. These dark purple wedges with a bit of sparkle from Torrid were perfect to keep with the girly vibe and this floral handbag from Just Fab added that wow factor that I like to create. The final touch was these marble earrings from ModCloth. I loved how they repeated the floral from the bag but were in a light colour palette as opposed to dark.
After the first time I wore this purple sequin skirt, I knew that I wanted to give it another spin, it was way too fabulous not to! But this time I decided to try the look they had styled on the website. I often find that when I look at how the team styles pieces on the website that they will push me out of my comfort zone and make me want to try something I normally wouldn’t.
This was certainly the case with this puff sleeve mock neck sweater that totally had me reminiscing about my teenage style. The colour is perfect against the almost blue like richness of the sequins and the bulkiness of the sweater is a casual edgy contrast to the sparkle of the skirt. I am wearing a size 26/28 and it is a generous fit and gave me that over sized cozy feel.
The true test of anything made with all sequins is how practical it is to wear it for any extended period of time. I have to say that I wore this skirt for about 6 hours, I drove in it, sat in it and I was totally comfortable. So that was a huge two thumbs up! And I didn’t leave a trail of sequins behind me! I absolutely love the fit on this skirt compared to some others I have tried, the lining is stretchy and the length is perfect on me. I am wearing the size 28 and for a pear shaped girl I felt this pencil skirt was cut perfectly for me, I have room to spare.
I paired this look with these cute western booties, also from ELOQUII that are totally on trend as western is definitely in. I love how the silver metallic picks up on the sparkle of the sequins and of course my limited edition tote from Coach. I felt like being a little extra with this look so I added this dramatic silver earrings because I mean why not?
For my office look I chose this cute fit and flare dress in a super fun floral print. Again this is something that I wouldn’t have paired with this jacket until I saw the look book for this collection. This dress is made of a soft jersey knit and I am wearing my typical size 28 and love the fit. It’s a classic piece with a bit of whimsy mixed in with this print.
When I styled this I decided I wanted to play off the burgundy in the dress and provide some contrast to the pastel colour of the fur. These suede slingbacks from Full Beauty and my classic Coach satchel were the perfect additions to this look. Finally I added a pop of the coral colour in the dress with these earrings that I bought when I was in Cancun. This look is definitely my kind of work look, classic and polished but not typical, just like me.
I have a few more plans up my sleeve to keep me wearing this gorgeous fur into the New Year so make sure you stay tuned!
Special thanks to Kate of Kate McG Photography for capturing these looks. And please give her some love as she joins the Mustangallytwo family!
