Happy Wednesday my loyal blogger fam, I hope you are enjoying your week so far! I took a little bit of a break after finishing my anniversary series and because I was in Atlanta for the TCF Style Expo but I am back and have some new looks to share with you. I have definitely been feeling like I am in a little bit of a funk these days and I can’t quite figure it out so I thank you for being patient with me while I sort it out. You guys truly are the best!
For today’s post we are going to take another look at new plus size brand Soncy. I have been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to try a lot of pieces from the brand and it has really helped me assess their fit and quality. As an avid online shopper I place a lot of importance on fit because I want to be confident in the purchases I make and I am so bad at returning things lol.
I always recommend that when you shop online you need to be educated and prepared, it will truly make for a better shopping experience. With that in mind, there are some key things you should take into account. First and most importantly, know your measurements! I am always amazed at the number of women I meet or talk to that have no clue what their measurements are!
Unfortunately sizes can be vastly different from one brand to the next so having your measurements readily available will make choosing the correct size so much easier. So if you don’t know, grab a measuring tape, a friend and a glass of wine and just do it. And remember, it is only a number, it’s says nothing about you as a person.
I will always look at a size chart as my starting point for determining what size I order. The problem that I often have is my hip measurement will fall off of the size chart or my bust and waist are one size and my hips are 2 sizes bigger. In that case I focus on what type of garment I want to purchase. If it is a fit and flare dress I will choose the size that fits my bust and waist but if it is pants I will choose based on my hips.
The other thing I do is look at the description to determine what the fit is, i.e. relaxed or form fitting and what the fabric is and whether there is any stretch as these will definitely impact what size I get. I cannot say enough good things about Soncy’s size chart and fit! First of all, their size chart is easily accessible from every product page. I can’t tell you how many other brands out there drive me crazy because trying to find a size chart on their website is like mining for gold.I found that their sizing represents a true plus size fit and is very comparable to Torrid and Premme if you are looking for a reference point. What I can tell you is that they have really worked on their fit. I honestly cannot remember the last time if ever that I was consistently able to wear the same size in almost every piece I have from the same brand. I am a true size 5 in Soncy.
And how does a brand get their fit right so early on? First off they recognize the importance of it and then they invest the time and energy into getting it right. And having a size 18 fit model that is not an hourglass shape certainly helps. But I also encourage you to take a look at their website and see the overall diversity in the size and shape of the models they used. Seeing a size 4 wearing the clothes was so incredibly helpful. And better yet, they also tell you the measurements and height of each model. I love seeing such diverse images and bodies, it is inspiring.
After my last post with the brown polka dot skirt I was so inspired that I had to see how many ways I could style a different piece. Sometimes I can get wrapped up in creating outfits in my wardrobe that I forget to experiment with what is there. And that is when I can get really creative.
For this challenge I chose the Stripe Right On Me Crop Top and Wide Leg Pants matching set. Matching sets have been a must have trend for spring and summer and you will see the trend carry into the fall. This set is definitely out of my comfort zone because it is very loose and flowy with a super relaxed shape. And this stripe is quite dramatic even for this girl who loves her prints and patterns. But once I saw it I fell in love with the fit and the colour palette. The fabric is lightweight and breezy which is perfect for the warm weather. The top is cropped but not too short so if you just want to bare a little skin you can. And can we talk about the thick elastic bra friendly straps? They are a definite plus in my books.
I will admit that I was really nervous about the pants because I have trouble finding wide leg pants that actually give me a wide leg look because of my thighs. Well these definitely fit the bill and I am only wearing a size 5! I thought for sure I was going to have to size up. They are high waisted which I love, especially when pairing with a crop top and so comfortable. I left them on after my photo shoot, that’s how comfortable they are lol. They also have built in shorts so you don’t have to worry about them riding up, you can be chafe free and they keep them from being see through because of the lightweight fabric. This to me shows great attention to detail. Obviously the first way I styled this is to wear it as it was intended, as a matching set. To elevate the set for a slightly more formal look I added a metallic wedge, a grey studded clutch and metallic accessories. My super glam sunnies completed this chic and sophisticated look.
Next up I decided to go in the complete opposite direction and take the pants for a super casual spin. I love the combination of the soft pink with the grey and white stripes so I added a simple grey cropped tee and denim jacket that are both also from Soncy. I love the wrap detail on the tee and the frayed hem on the jacket. These are little details that make wardrobe basics like these feel elevated and trendy. A pair of sneakers, a cute bag like this cupcake one and some simple accessories made for a comfy but chic casual look. The denim jacket is the perfect layering piece as we head into fall. I am wearing a size 5 in the tee and jacket.
This next look came to me at the last minute as I was getting ready to shoot. I had the duster from another look you will see on Instagram soon and it happened to be hanging up near another piece I went to grab. My style lightbulb struck and I realized it could be fun to play on the current pajama trend. This Kimono She Better Don’t Duster is one of my favourite pieces from the collection. I love the rich grey colour that has a mauve undertone to it. The fabric is soft and silky and has a luxe feel to it. And the fit is generous, I am wearing a size 5 and had more than enough room. It also doubles as a beautiful robe.
I paired it with the pants and this super soft cozy ruched top. I love the soft pink colour with the duster and pants and the drawstring allows you to decide how much skin you want to show. I am also wearing the 5 in this but I could have likely sized down. I again added some mixed metallic accessories to play off the sheen of the duster and this super cool holographic bag that is also from Soncy. Over all this look is out of the box for me but I loved how it came together and played up a must have trend for this year.
Finally I wanted to create something that was cozy, comfortable and perfect for lounging. To achieve this vibe I simply swapped out the duster for this super soft white button up top that is the same fabric as the pink one underneath. I love layering for Fall and a top like this is a perfect lightweight option. And it can also be worn on its own. I am wearing a size 4 in this as I wanted it to be more form fitting if I decided to wear it on its own. A simple slide sandal and a cute bag takes me from lounging at home to stepping out for coffee or dinner in a flash. This would also be a great outfit to travel in.
I really hope you enjoy this post, I had so much fun experimenting with this set! Of course you have to tell me which one is your fave! And I also want to know, what do you think about matching sets, would you rock one?
