Happy Wednesday everyone, I hope you are all doing well and good news, the weekend is that much closer! Today we are taking a little breather before I share my final blogiversary post to provide you with all the deets on the amazing new brand I shared with you recently on Instagram – Soncy.
I am like a little kid when a new plus size brand comes on the market, the thought that I have another option to choose from when buying clothes is so exciting. When you grew up only having a few places to shop its hard to believe the options that exist now. But what is even more exciting is that unlike a lot of other brands that have launched in the last couple of years, they went for it and offer a full plus size range from sizes 10 to 30! Now that is something that garners extra attention from me! For once I wasn’t being left out and neither were my fellow extended size babes, thanks Soncy!
Based on my business background I can tell you that launching a start up is no small feat and I have been impressed with the Soncy team from the moment they contacted me. They take all my feedback willingly and want to make sure they get the fit right. I have been dismissed by brands before when I try to offer this kind of feedback so I appreciate their style and approach. And that in my opinion will translate to excellent customer service and great designs.
They have a simple but powerful mission statement – “to bring fashionable and affordable clothes that empower women to strut their stuff.” Because let’s face it, we may be plus size but we sure as heck to want to look great and feel fantastic when we walk in a room. And they have some pretty great goals too:
“Soncy is more than an e-retailer – Soncy is a lifestyle and a community. An online destination created to inspire women to express their inner fashionista!”
“We know the struggle is real when it comes to finances so, we decided to do something about it – ALL of our products are under $100, yep you read that right!”
“To put some icing on the cake, we are adding new styles every week – we gotta keep things fresh!”
And that is just a few of them! Probably my favourite thing they did that I feel is unique in the market place is create their VIP program. For $39 US a year, you receive 30% off everything, including special promotions and sale items; free shipping and returns in the US mainland on every order; exclusive access to sales and new styles; styles that are created just for you and a special gift on your birthday. The accountant in me knows that is a pretty sweet deal. And for all my fellow Canadian babes and those of you living internationally I realize that not having free shipping and returns right now is a bummer but the automatic 30% off will save the exchange. Plus don’t worry, they are working on trying to make something happen for us too so stay tuned! And if you live close to the border like I do then I highly recommend shipping to a US address.
Today’s post is all about giving you the most bang for your buck and showing you how to mix and max pieces to maximize your investment and the options in your wardrobe. The team challenged me to take one piece from the launch collection and style it 3 different ways. I am always up for a challenge so of course I accepted!
I took things a little bit further and chose a piece that was out of my comfort zone – the “I Seriously Dot That” polka dot wrap skirt. First of all, isn’t the name absolutely adorable? I love that each piece in the collection has its own unique name. So this piece is out of my comfort zone because it is brown which is a colour I really don’t wear and it is a true wrap skirt which I tend to not love because I am pear shaped and it is hard to find one that fits properly. When I opened the package I have to admit that I was pretty apprehensive when I saw the colour up close and personal but I was like Lisa you are being ridiculous, you’ve got this lol.
But what really sold me was the fit. I am wearing the size 6, I chose to size up because it is a straight fit and the fabric doesn’t stretch. This is pretty common for me to do with this type of silhouette. The construction is great with quality material, it is lined and has a nice gold button at the front closure. And the waist fits me because they were smart and put a half elastic insert in the back. The inside panel of the wrap covers me completely which is important for sitting down and I love how the hem is slightly asymmetric.
Since we all live busy lives I decided to style this skirt for work, a night out and for a casual afternoon of running errands. For work I chose to pair it with a simple white tank from my closet and the “Tie Another Day” collarless blazer. Let’s just say this jacket is simply Ah-mazing! I think you have all heard me complain about finding a blazer that fits and this one is pretty much perfect. I love the crisp white colour, especially for summer; the fact that it is collarless because it looks polished but doesn’t add bulk; the grommet details and self tie waist that really let me cinch myself in; it is fully lined and the slit detail at the cuff. I am wearing the size 5 in this and I was super impressed with the fit, I was a little worried that I should have sized up but I have a lot of room in the 5 and the fabric has some stretch. And a minor detail to some but pretty big for me was that the arms aren’t too long, no alterations required!
To finish styling this look I decided to add some accessories that would create some visual interest. These white fringe wedge sandals are on trend but totally office appropriate. And this Citron coloured bag with a scarf accent that had a pop of coral was the statement maker. Its unexpected but works. Finally I added these fun tortoise shell earrings and a silver cuff bracelet to play off the grommet detail. This look is a power look that I look forward to rocking in my professional career.
Next I wanted to do something really simple and let the skirt do all the talking. And for anyone who is looking to transition a look from the office to casual this is so easy to do. All I did was take the blazer off and wear it with my cropped white tank top. I paired it with clean white sneakers, big gold earrings to play off the button on the skirt, my favourite sunnies and my bamboo bag. I was immediately ready for running errands, a casual drink on a patio or a walk along the boardwalk.
For date night or girls night out I decided to jazz things up and add a little bit of sex appeal with the “Wrap Queen Ruffled Top” in this gorgeous pale blue shade. Ladies, this top is everything!! It is totally on trend with its cropped wrap style and dramatic ruffle sleeves. I was totally drawn to it.
I am wearing the size 5 in this piece and it fits great and provide enough coverage if you have a large chest. The fact that it is a wrap allows you to adjust it to fit perfectly. The fabric is so light weight but not see through which I really appreciate. I loved how feminine and pretty it made me feel and it pairs so well with the skirt.
I had this vision of somehow wanting to bring some pale pink and blush into this look and when I found this bag I knew my vision was going to come to life. The stripes added another print to the mix and the floral bow tied into the feminine detailing of the top. I then added some fun statement earrings, some simple mixed metallic bangles and my pink pineapple slides. This outfit is totally me and I felt like an absolute babe in it.
Well there you have it everyone, I think I accomplished my mission! Make sure you drop me a comment and let me know which look is your fave because of course I want to know. Soncy also offers accessories so I provided links to some cute ones that would be great alternatives to the ones I am wearing from my personal collection.
