Happy Wednesday my loyal blogger fam, how has your week been so far? Things have been a little interesting over on social media this week. One of the pictures from my last post got turned into a hateful meme from some political crazy who hides behind a private profile. Thankfully one of my loyal followers brought it to my attention and with the amazing support of my fellow bloggers we reported his ass like crazy! And while it took quite a few posts I must say last night someone finally decided to attack the series and pretend they care about my health, again from a private profile without even a profile picture. I appreciate those of you that supported me but I hope you realize that I can look after myself and sometimes its just easier to ignore them. That way we can keep the space nice and positive! But all is well because I learned a long time ago to rise above it. So instead I have another instalment from my series, “Soul to Skin – An Exposé on Fat Love” for you.
Today’s pictures inspired me to talk about an object that I think we all have a love hate relationship with – the mirror. There is so many sayings and analogies about the mirror but in the end I believe it is about being your most vulnerable – what do you see looking back at you when you look in the mirror? So many women ask me how I am so confident and how did I learn to accept my body. And while there isn’t one exact answer and the journey has been filled with many different steps and moments, learning to like what you see in the mirror is a good start. And let me be clear, you don’t have to love everything you see but you have to accept it for what it is and celebrate what you do. So if you are starting out on your own self love journey or want to work on your confidence then I highly recommend spending some quality time in front of the mirror.
I think it is important for you to have a starting point and face whatever things you don’t like about yourself and your body head on. On the flip side I also think you need to identify the things you do like about your yourself and your body. And don’t tell me there is nothing because we all have something! Once you identify some positives you can start with taking the time to be mindful and reinforce them with positive affirmations. Doing this in front of a mirror is a perfect way to do this. Try out different angles, different lighting and different outfits. And don’t forget to appreciate yourself completely in the buff. If you make this a habit you will slowly start to see your perceptions shift and what was once negative will turn into a positive. We are our own worst critics so if we can overcome the negative self talk then we are less likely to be impacted by what others think of us. And you will also find yourself focusing less on the physical and more on everything else because choosing to define yourself by your physical appearance alone is doing yourself a huge disservice.
So let’s talk about this beautiful lingerie which ended up being a magical combination of different pieces. This robe is one of the items I chose for the new collection at SexyPlus Clothing. Originally when I chose it we thought it was a softer blush colour with ivory trim and I was going to pair it with the cream baby doll I featured in a previous post. But when it actually arrived we discovered it was a gorgeous shade of peach and had a lovely yellow trim. The lace on this robe has a beautiful pattern and I love the satin trim and built in ribbon tie closure. It is available in 1x/2x; 3x/4x and 5x/6x. I am wearing the 5x/6x and am very pleased with the fit.
Thankfully I have a bit of a healthy lingerie collection and I was able to pair it with some pieces I already had in my closet. This floral bra is from Livi Rae Lingerie and made by Sculptesse. I am wearing a 46 H. Livi Rae is owned by Molly Hopkins and Cynthia Decker, otherwise affectionately known as the “Double Divas” which was their lifetime TV reality show. If you are looking for a bra fitting then these 2 fabulous ladies are who you should see. They specialize in fitting busts of all sizes, nothing is too small or too big, especially if it is a hard to find size. And Cynthia can also make you custom pieces. I had the chance to have a fitting last summer when I was in Atlanta and it was one of the best experiences of my life. They took great care of me and were so open to working with someone my size. They can also do fittings virtually so don’t worry if you can’t make it to Atlanta. I love these ladies to death, they are genuinely 2 of the kindest souls you will ever meet. I scored myself some beautiful plum colour cheeky panties to go with this bra but they didn’t go with the robe so I grabbed a pair of soft blush sheer panties from Lane Bryant that I already had and I am sorry, they are sold out. I did give you the link to the amazing cheeky panties that Livi Rae sells as they are available up to a 5x. With this look I realized that you don’t have to wear a matching set, that you can mix and match pieces you already own. Have fun with your lingerie ladies!
So my challenge to you today is to learn to love your mirror and what you see in it, embrace the fabulous woman that I know all of you are! xoxo
Thank you to Katie of Katiuska Idrovo Photography for the experience of a lifetime. I love that you see the beauty in women of all shapes and sizes.
