Happy Valentine’s Day my loyal blogger fam, I hope your day is filled with love and happiness. And that doesn’t mean you have to have someone special in your life but if you do that’s awesome. But it also can come from your family, friends, children and most importantly yourself! And if you are flying solo take the time to treat yourself – go for a mani/pedi, get a massage, have a bubble bath and a bottle of wine or curl up with a good book. Or you could also buy a new outfit (that would probably be at the top of my list lol)
I personally have never been a fan of Valentine’s Day myself because I have been single most of my life and I really feel it is so commercialized. But as I have gotten older and started my self love journey I realized that not being in a relationship does not prevent me from being able to enjoy the day. Plus its tax season for me so the reality is this year I will be at my desk working late and trying to meet deadlines. That’s super glamorous right?
Being the self professed shopaholic and fashionista that I am, I am continually checking my favourite brands’ websites to see what new arrivals they have. This is especially true for this time of year when all the beautiful pieces for spring start to show up, my absolutely favourite season. I have to say this cold weather has really but a damper on my style these days and I am totally sick of wearing pants. I am definitely looking forward to spring.
So while I was checking out Lane Bryant a few weeks back I noticed that some seriously sexy dresses had started showing up in their new arrivals. Denise Bidot was of course killing them as she always does. I was excited to see them because honestly I typically don’t think of Lane Bryant for sexy dress options. For lingerie hell yes but I always felt their dress collection was more of a work vibe with a few special occasion pieces mixed in.
If a brand offers something new in their arsenal then you know I definitely want to take it for a spin. Especially since it is hard to find sexier options above a size 24. And I don’t care what size I am, I want the option to look and feel sexy. Are my fellow size 24 and up girls with me? I can wear my grandmother’s Mumu if I choose to or when I am her age but I don’t want that to be my only option. And remember ladies the more we advocate for change the more change will happen.
Corsets and corset style details are a huge trend in fashion right now. A corset is something that I think automatically makes you think of sexy. It is also one of those garments that has been part of women’s fashion for centuries. There is a sensual femininity that is immediately felt when you see a woman wearing a corset. It defines her shape and accentuates her curves. And in centuries past, larger bodies were very desirable and celebrated.
I was immediately drawn to the corset detail in the top of this dress from Lane Bryant. It is dramatic because it covers you from the waist up and does wonders for your chest but it is also soft with the thick black ribbon that is used to lace it up. I really like a combination of hard and soft. And the fact that it is adjustable allows you to really cinch it in if you want that effect and mould it to your body shape.
The rest of this dress is definitely your classic LBD. It hits you just around the knee which makes it super versatile. It has bra friendly straps which I absolutely love but with a low back to show some skin. And the straps are actually lined up properly with your bra straps so they won’t show. I can’t stand when dresses have wide enough straps but they are placed really weird and you can still see your bra!
But besides the corset I think my favourite thing about this dress is that it is made of a thick high quality ponte fabric that is stretchy and holds you in, it is actually like a built in spanx but still comfortable. I love it because it hides all your lumps and bumps and keeps you looking smooth but is still comfortable. Ooops did I just say comfortable twice lol? If you want to feel sexy I think being comfortable and secure in what you are wearing certainly helps. And it has the all important back kick vent for ease of movement. I am wearing the size 28 and am super happy with the fit!
So have you noticed the shoes I am wearing yet? These rose gold metallic sandals are absolutely 100% amazing!!!! I typically find that Lane Bryant’s heels are too high for me so when I saw this on the page I knew I immediately wanted to try them. And they surpassed my expectations. A classic strappy sandal that fits my wide feet and has a sensible heel is really hard to find. These have a 2 inch block heel which provides great support. And the ankle strap is genius! Finally someone designed a shoe with a strap that is not only wide enough for our ankles but you can easily do it up yourself. I am wearing the size 9 which is typical for me when they don’t have half sizes and I will definitely be getting these beauties in other colours. They come in black, pink and orange.
To pull the look together I then added this super cute and whimsical heart shaped clutch from Torrid. I am such a sucker for a cute clutch! And this one is large enough to hold your phone and other important things which is at the top of my list. I then added some rose gold bangles also from Torrid and these super fun earrings from H&M that I can’t get enough of. I can’t believe how many outfits they have looked great with. And I want to give a special shout out to my girl Gabriella Lascano because I am wearing her lipstick and gloss from her collaboration with Micki Song Cosmetics.
Well that’s a wrap on this look peeps but if you are looking for a great LBD for your next night out then this one is definitely a must have. Thanks LB for adding some sexy to your offering!
This look was provided care of Lane Bryant but all opinions are my own.
Thanks to my boo Stef of SexyPlus Clothing for helping me make the most of this indoor shoot because of the mountain of snow we had outside!
