Happy Friday everyone, I hope you all had a fantastic week and are heading into the home stretch of your holiday preparations! I am a little bit of a last minute nelly this year which is par for the course but I will get through it like I always do.
So continuing with my theme of fun and festive looks that would be perfect for any events you have from now until the New Year is this look from Society+. The mastermind behind the in house designs of one of my fave brands, Jessica Kane launched a new collection this fall full of amazing options all the way up to a size 36. I was in love with so many pieces so when they asked if I wanted to feature a few on the blog of course I said yes.
I love the pieces that Jessica designs because she is a size 26/28 herself and she takes that into consideration when choosing fabrics, styles, cuts, shapes of pieces, the little details and things that are practical! And although her and I are different shapes I love seeing her model the pieces because it gives me a good idea of how they will look on me. Not to mention that the brand uses a variety of models in all shapes and sizes which I have great respect for. Diversity is near and dear to my heart and I love working with brands that understand that.
It was also really impressive to see that they had expanded their size offering with some of the pieces in this collection. I have huge respect for the fact that they offered up to a size 32 right from the beginning. When so many brands tell you how expensive it is to offer extended sizes and that the sales aren’t there to support it, when you see a start up do it and succeed you have to give them a huge amount of credit. It is that start up mind set where they believe anything is possible if you work hard enough that earns my respect. So to offer a 34/36 is amazing and I can’t wait to see what comes out next.
Jessica was one of the bloggers that inspired me before I started and I had the opportunity to meet her after I had only been blogging for just a few months. She left a lasting impression on me and we have formed a bond since then. I look to her for advice as a bad ass business women and someone who I can count on when I am having a bad day. She continues to inspire me every day.
So it is safe to say that I have a few of Society+’s signature tutus in my closet, I mean can a girl ever have too many? I would say no but I am a little excess lol. When this skirt came out I was very intrigued because it has a little of that tutu feel but is more practical for every day. And I mean can we talk about this amazing colour? I am completely obsessed with the dark berry.
The Alice Skirt is a combination of lace and tulle. It has a romantic flirty vibe but also a sexy chic feel. It is lined, has a layer of lace and then 1 layer of tulle on top. Society+ always makes sure that their pieces are made of quality fabrics and have the proper lining so that you don’t have to worry about things showing that you don’t want. The lace they chose is absolutely gorgeous, the pictures on the website didn’t do it justice I have to say. When I took it out of the box I couldn’t stop looking at it.
It also has the signature Society+ waist band that is made of soft fabric with stretch. This one is 1 1/2 inches wide which I like. The length is my favourite because it falls just below the knee. It is fun whimsical piece that definitely makes you want to twirl and it is sure to get you noticed. I am wearing the 26/28 which is my standard Society+ size and the fit was true to size.
I decided to pair it with the Jessica Kane Flutter Peplum top in black. I am not one who will every shy away from wearing a peplum style regardless of whether they are on trend or not. It is a classic shape that works perfectly for my shape. Jessica amped up the fun factor on this one by adding this cute ruffle detail on the one shoulder. With a high round neckline and quality scuba fabric this piece is a perfect basic that you can easily pair with so many different pieces.
I think what I love most about this is that the cut allows you to wear it out or tucked in. It has the right amount of volume but not too much so that it would look bulky if you have it tucked in. I wore it tucked in here but I also loved how it looked out as it gently skimmed over the skirt. I am wearing the size 26/28 and I would actually say the fit on this is generous, I would consider sizing down when I buy the midi version that it is also available but in peach (yeah boxing day!).
Of course I couldn’t resist adding some fun accessories to make the look my own. I kept it simple with my new black ballet flats from Hush Puppies that I am kind of obsessed with. But everything else is full of sparkle and shine. This bag from Aldo in this bright Kelly green colour is the perfect contrast to the skirt, these earrings from H&M scream holiday festive and these statement rings from my friend Chantell are simply masterpieces.
But the best part of this look? It is stylish, holiday ready glam that is comfortable! I know I could easily wear this all day and not want to take it off and I don’t think you can ask for more than that. Stay tuned as I have one more over the top look for you coming soon!
