Happy Thursday everyone, the weekend is almost here, are you all done your Christmas shopping? Holiday parties to attend? Both? I can’t believe how fast time has gone by, it is definitely coming up quickly and I am so not ready! But in the mean time I have to focus on the task at hand and give you the 4th instalment in my 2017 #HolidayDoubleSlay.
For today’s looks I reached out to another favourite brand of mine, Torrid that was an instrumental part of my self love journey. Of course they took great care of us and provided some killer looks. Even more exciting, we had the chance to pre shop their latest look book which was just released last week. When I opened it up I almost jumped out of my seat when I saw the amazing florals, bright colours, sequins and rich textures. As per usual they certainly did not disappoint. And I love that they provide options for all occasions from casual jeans and a tee to full on glam.
My partner for today’s Slay is my babe, Caterina, also known as Caterina Moda Plus Model (Extraordinaire I say!). Cat and I met through my boo Stef and you will likely recognize her from SexyPlus Clothing’s page which she models for on the regular. Cat was part of last year’s inaugural #HolidayDoubleSlay and we twinned the same dress and had a blast. Over the last year we have spent more time together and forged a great friendship.
She is one of those people that is always happy and has a smile on her face. But don’t get me wrong this woman is no push over and in fact is a certified boxing coach. I admire Caterina’s dedication to the sport and the time she spends training up and coming young boxers. She was recently featured in FabUplus magazine talking about her love of the sport and also demonstrating a few killer moves. She is passionate about spreading her passion for fitness and that you can be active no matter what size you are. Who knows maybe I will get her to teach me a few moves in 2018!
Caterina has really inspired me when it comes to modeling. She is an absolute natural. Pose after pose, look after look she delivers and her look is so multi faceted. And despite her huge following and success she is very humble and down to earth. She enjoys working with girls who want to break into the industry and she gave me more encouragement than she probably knows. As I have talked about before I really struggled with calling myself a model and Caterina was one of the key people that convinced me to ignore the naysayers and know that I was worthy of the reference. I can’t imagine not having Cat in my life now, she is part of my ride and die crew and I look forward to what fun we will have and projects we will collaborate on in the coming year. Here is a peek at Caterina’s look but be sure to check out her Instagram and website for more pictures.
And now I will give you the details on my look…
If you can’t already guess I was inspired by the look on the cover of this latest look book. Of course I am a huge fan of all things floral and when I saw the picture of Candice Huffine twirling in this number I was like hell yes, this is it, I don’t need to look any further! But I also knew that I had to give it my own little Lisa twist. It’s definitely not what I would consider a traditional holiday look but that is part of what I love, it feels holiday but it can also easily been worn throughout the year and individual pieces can be mixed and matched with others in my closet.
At Torrid’s runway show at NYFW in September, we saw a lot of embellished moto jackets walk down the runway and they were all amazing. They seem to be starting things off early with the introduction of pieces like this one. I love the flower appliques scattered on the back and sleeves and the black metal rivets give it that edgy feel. So you have this perfect combination of edgy and girly all in one jacket.
I have to say that I am over the moon about the fit of this jacket! Jackets are definitely not my friend, especially ones from big retailers as it is usually something that I need tailored or custom made to fit me properly but this one has magic in it let me tell you. I couldn’t believe it when I zipped it up and it fit like a glove. The arms weren’t too long, it isn’t too big in the shoulders and it lays nicely just above my booty but is cut more on an angle in the front. It hugs my curves and emphasizes my waist perfectly. I am wearing the 5x which is the size I would typically get but it is by far the best fitting I have ever had!
Now we have to talk about the gorgeousness that is this skirt. Dark florals are definitely a trend for fall and winter but this one is unique because it combines a crisp black background with vibrant primary colours like red, yellow, green, blue and purple. It is an explosion of colour but still has some refinement too it as the print is somewhat spread out and you get a good amount of black showing through. Looking at this and wearing it makes me so happy, it will be perfect on a gloomy day to bring out this beautiful garden. I love the flirtiness of the chiffon overlay and the subtle amount of pouf. I am wearing the 4x which is my standard size in a fit and flare skirt.
The detail I decided to change up was my top. The jacket and skirt have a bit of a rockabilly biker vibe and I wanted to sex things up a little and the basic red cami wasn’t doing it for me. So I was pretty excited when I found this vibrant red bralette on the site. It is mesh with black trim and a cut out. I love the details and the visual interest. And it definitely amps up the sex appeal. I am wearing my plunge bra underneath. I also love how the back is long enough to not show too much skin. And of course it has adjustable straps. I am wearing the 5x which I need due to the fact that I wear an H cup.
Any look of mine would not be complete without my accessories. I have a hard time with Torrid shoes because the heels are so darn high so I was thrilled when I saw these cute wedges that had a reasonable heel. And the fact that they are purple suede and have rhinestones on the buckle certainly doesn’t hurt. I am wearing the 8 1/2 and they fit really well and I could actually move around on set very freely with these. I added a simple gold bracelet from ELOQUII and these super statement making earrings from H&M. I absolutely love the pink and red combination and how the pink pops against the rest of the look. Finally I had to throw in one of my favourite new clutches from ALDO in a statement making purple suede with the cutest beetle details.
As I have progressed on my journey, I have found that I love to try different things more and more. And things that I would never have done in the past or would have been cautious about are now becoming part of my everyday norm. My style is evolving and I couldn’t be happier about it. I feel confident in who I am and know that I can own the room in whatever I choose to wear. And let me tell you this look will be going for a spin at an upcoming event I have so stay tuned!
