Mustang Sally Two

California Dreamin

September 20, 2017

Happy Wednesday everyone, I hope you are all having a fantastic week!  I am so sorry that I have not posted in so long, I had the best of intentions but my trip to NYC was a bit nuts and time slipped away from me.  And now I am officially back at work so I am just adjusting to a more regular schedule.  The one thing I did learn on my sabbatical is that I am a better blogger when I am working – keeping busy makes me more efficient!

I don’t know how the weather is where you live but we are definitely experiencing a September heat wave here in Southern Ontario.  So while my motivation to wear fall clothes is already usually low, it is even worse when it is 29C.  Luckily I shot some cute looks while I was in LA that are full of great transitional pieces that you can wear now and later.

First up is this grey ribbed knit skater dress from Torrid.  This was part of my last haute cash haul.  I have find myself being drawn to neutrals more lately and also knits.  So when I spotted this cutie I knew it would be the perfect casual look.  And the great thing about a dress like this is it is really a blank canvas, it can be styled so many different ways.

The fabric on this dress is super soft.  Knits are a huge trend this fall and Torrid has really embraced it by not only providing more options then I have ever seen before from them but also stepping it up in the quality department.  A quality knit wears well and looks great after many washes.  And they don’t wrinkle!  I personally despise fabrics like challis because I feel like I always look like a wrinkled hot mess lol.

The style of the dress is somewhat oversized and relaxed.  It is very stretchy but has a defined elastic waist and the volume of the skater skirt is offset by the kimono style sleeve.  It has a surplice neckline which I love because it isn’t too deep, it doesn’t require something underneath but still shows the girls.  And surprisingly enough I quite like the shorter length on this, I found the relaxed fit provided ample coverage.  Now that is progress for me!

I am wearing the 4x in this dress which is my typical Torrid size for this type of style.  To wear this in warmer temperatures I decided to add a metallic sandal with my favourite flat forms from Full Beauty.  I cannot count the number of times I have been asked about these shoes which have been in heavy rotation this summer.  I also have them in gold.  Unfortunately since it is the end of season they are now sold out but I have asked them to bring them back next spring so I will keep you posted.  In the meantime, I gave you a link to a really cute velvet pewter mule that I think would work perfectly with this dress when the weather cools down.

Now can we talk about this amazing straw tote bag?  I saw this on the Eloquii website by accident when I was placing an order and it was on sale for 60% off so I thought what the heck.  I was so surprised when I opened the box to see how awesome this bag was.  First off it is huge, I mean the perfect size for taking to the beach.  Secondly it is has a great silver thread weaved through it and is made of a heavy well constructed straw.  But finally this huge pink yarn tassel with silver trim is to die for.  If you are looking for a great end of season deal then I would totally pick this up, its currently on sale for $29.99 and if you watch you can probably get an extra sale % off too.

I then added this cute fringe earrings from Lane Bryant and some mixed metallic bangles from Penningtons.  The sunnies I borrowed from my photographer.  I loved mimicking the pink tassel on the bag with the earrings.

To transform this look for fall I would definitely have some fun by adding some added textures through a velvet burnout kimono, some tights, a bootie and a rich burgundy coloured bag.  You could also totally layer this with a long sleeved tee underneath, a knee high boot and a moto jacket.

For now though I am going to continue to enjoy the sunshine and warm weather while I can.  And I am definitely dreaming of that fantastic California weather, I need to go back soon!

Special thanks to Liz of Liz Estrada Photography for capturing this look.

For most of my life I have been plus size and I struggled for years to accept my size, believing that the answer to everything was being thin. I can now proudly say that I have finally gotten to the point where I accept myself for who I am and my body for what it is. I now truly know that I am beautiful both inside and out.

My mission is to inspire the every day woman. I want to show her that she can find clothing that is stylish and she doesn't have to settle.
