Happy Tuesday peeps, I hope you all had a fabulous Labour Day weekend. Tomorrow I will be heading back to NYC for Curvy Con & NYFW and I am super excited. I can’t believe I am going to get to see my first runway show. And there is so much going on that includes plus size fashion, man how the times are changing.
One of the most memorable events for the plus size fashion community this summer was the announcement that boss babes Nicolette Mason and Gabi Gregg were launching their own clothing line Premme. As two of the original bloggers that started the movement these are two women who have paved the way and turned their platforms and influence into successful businesses. So many women in the community look up to them so there was a huge buzz of excitement when the news was out. And not to mention that they both have fantastic taste so we were all excited to see what they had to offer.
And I have to say they did not disappoint with their debut collection. They threw out the “rules” for plus size fashion and made pieces that are fun, edgy, trendy, colourful, well made and up to a size 30! I always am very hesitant when I hear a new brand is launching because my first inclination is that it will only go up to a size 22 or 24 as is often the case. The fact that they felt it was so important to offer a true plus size range spoke to me.
What truly won my heart was the fact that they used models of different sizes and shapes. Size and body diversity in brand advertising is so important to me, it is something that I strive for every day in what I do and how I use my voice and my platform. To see that they walk the talk is meaningful in a market that still has a long way to go.
On the day the collection launched we were all so excited that we broke their website! As a business woman who deals with my clients every day including start ups, I felt for them when this major hiccup occurred. But I give them a huge thumbs up for the way they handled it providing personalized messages and working around the clock to resolve issues. I did have a problem when I checked out but their customer service team was absolutely amazing and totally looked after me. I think it is safe to say you would never see that level of service from a major brand who has far more resources at their disposal.
The collection had a bit of everything and I tried many different pieces because I wanted to get a feel for fit and sizing. Overall I was impressed with what I purchased. There were a couple of pieces that didn’t work for me but I think it was more to do with the aesthetics of the piece not working with my body type than quality or fit. And I consistently wore a size 5 in most pieces. I thought their size chart was accurate and given that the pieces were made of fabrics that didn’t necessarily have a lot of stretch like we are used to with plus size clothing this is what size I expected I would need.
The message that Gabi & Nicolette want to share is simple:
“Premme was born out of a love of fashion and our frustration with it, (you all know what we mean). We believe that style should not be limited or compromised because of our bodies. OG plus-size fashion editors & bloggers, we’ve seen this industry evolve – but we knew there was something still missing. Premme is about taking risks, making a statement, and having fun. Premme wouldn’t exist without the love of our community. Our design, sensibilities, and approach is inspired by you, babe.”
You have seen me wear a couple of the dresses from the line on my Instagram page but I just had to share what is my absolute favourite pieces here on the blog. And that is this absolutely adorable and chic pearl sweatshorts and crop top. I can’t say I would have guessed that these would be my favourites when I was deciding what I wanted to order but from the moment I took them out of the package and tried them on I knew they were something special.
Choosing to take sweatshirt material and turn it into something cute, pretty and feminine is genius to me and definitely right on track with the current athleisure trend. The combination of the soft heather grey and the pearls is a classic pairing. The pieces are made of a high quality and weighty material that will last. And they definitely paid attention to the details, making sure that the pearls were securely fastened with metal backs, deep pockets in the shorts, a great mid rise length and a fully adjustable waist in the top with its wrap styling.
The other great thing they did was sell these pieces separately. That way you weren’t committed to both if you didn’t see yourself wearing the set or you could get two different sizes if you needed it, making it work for more body types. That is actually what I ended up doing, I am wearing the 4 in the top and the 5 in the shorts. I can easily see myself styling these pieces separately as well, wearing the shorts with a simple tee and denim jacket or hoodie and the top with a blush pink midi skirt or a great pair of jeans.
To style this look I added some cute crisp white sneakers with gold accents from Full Beauty. I have never been one to wear sneakers but I am in love with all the options they are coming out with right now. Then it was this cute whimsical Pom Pom cross over bag from Aldo and some fring earrings for a pop of colour. I love how this look is stylish and put together but comfy casual all at the same time.
I can’t wait to see what the next collection has in store for us as we head into Fall. It will be available for preview at Curvy Con and we asked and they listened, international shipping is now available!
Thanks to Stef of SexyPlus Clothing for the fab photos.
