Happy Friday everyone, who’s ready for the weekend? I am but it is also officially the start of my 2 month sabbatical from the world of accounting and I am so excited! I love what I do but I am looking forward to rejuvenating and coming back refreshed. It’s a once in a life time opportunity to do this and I am so grateful.
So I promised you another swim look this week and you know I couldn’t leave you hanging. And for this edition we are kicking things up a notch with something a little sexier and some definite edge!
I am sure you have figured out by now that Stef, the owner of SexyPlus Clothing and I have become good friends over the past two years. We share a passion for fashion and the plus size community as well as a love of business. As a small boutique owner Stef is all too aware of the challenges in finding suppliers that offer clothing above a 3x and also pieces that are true plus size and not junior plus. So when she gets pieces in that she thinks will fit me I always look forward to it.
This was the case with the Razor Cut Hi Lo Maxi that I am wearing here. It is available in sizes 1x to 3x and I am wearing the 3x. Razor cuts is such a big trend right now, you are seeing it all over in straight and plus sizes. It definitely has that cool sexy laid back take no prisoners kind of vibe. And it is a super versatile piece – you can wear it as a dress and show a lot of skin or wear a cami and leggings underneath or with short shorts. And just like I did here, it is an awesome swim cover up!
I love that it still shows off your suit but provides a pretty good amount of coverage and the visual interest is undeniable. And again you can choose to make it super sexy with a black or white string bikini underneath or do something a little more playful like I did here. I love that this piece encouraged me to think outside the box. I will be completely honest, this is not something I would wear just as a dress as its not my personal aesthetic.
But I was still drawn to it and definitely drawn to this trend. Sometimes its about making things work in a non traditional way. And don’t be afraid to bounce ideas off your friends – Stef and I have a great time discussing how we would style different pieces. We don’t have the same sense of style but we always come with great ideas and encourage each other. Remember, fashion is supposed to be fun!
So I am sure you want the deets on the swimsuit too. This year Torrid has definitely been my go to place for swim. I have always been a big fan of their swim collections but this year they really stepped up their game in my opinion. First off all of their suits are available in size 00 to 6 which has to be one of the most expansive and inclusive size ranges I have seen. And there is no what I like to call “style” discrimination. Their sexiest suit to their most conservative suit comes in all sizes. They don’t assume that a size 6 doesn’t want to feel sexy and they don’t assume that a size 00 doesn’t want to be modest.
On top of this they increased the sheer number of different suits they offered this year along with offering more choices in types of tops and bottoms. And you can also easily mix and match prints and solids to create a custom look. That is in fact what I decided to do here. And its funny because I am traditionally someone who likes my suits to match.
This top is a beautiful bright coral colour and I really liked the ruching detail and the convertible straps. It is not an underwire top so it doesn’t have amazing lift but it gets the job done. The bottoms have this beautiful mosaic tile like print with blues and greens and white. It definitely has a Mediterranean feel to it. I am wearing the 5 in both pieces.
There are a couple of things that I think Torrid could still work on to make their swim collection that much better – I wish there were more options in a single colour or print for bottoms in particular. Sometimes I find that I love the print or colour but they only have a skirted bottom and I would prefer a regular brief or vice versa. The ability to mix and match more would be fantastic. They also did a great job of bringing us more cover up options this year but instead of ones in basic colours I would like to see coordinating ones and more colour!
With swim I like to keep things simple so I added my go to gold metallic flat forms from Full Beauty and these super cute tassel earrings in mint green from SexyPlus. Stef always manages to find some kind of accessory to tempt me, lol – my credit card thanks you.
Overall I love how this look came together, it is a great representation of me – sexy, sassy, cute, stylish and fun but still comfortable. And it will definitely be in rotation on my summer sabbatical. Now I just need to plan that beach day…
Special thanks to Stef of SexyPlus Clothing for these beautiful photos.
