Happy Tuesday everyone, I hope you all had a fantastic weekend. I ended up getting to relax for the most part so it was quite a treat. So its a new week on the blog and as I promised, swimwear is coming back to MS2 and I couldn’t be more excited! Over the summer I will share a few of my favourite looks so make sure you stay tuned.
We are going to start my swimsuit looks off by featuring a new brand – Simply Be. I have included some of their shoes in my other posts but never a complete look. They are the sister company to JD Williams so they operate in a similar manner with a marketplace style featuring different brands and also bringing us that cool UK aesthetic. I do consider them the “younger” sister where their options are more for a younger hipper demographic. And while not everything comes up to a size 28 they do have plenty of options in my size range.
They recently launched a fantastic swim campaign “We Are Curves” where they encouraged women to forget the grueling diets and fads and just focus on finding the right suit. And this water loving swimsuit wearing girl couldn’t agree more. And to play off the campaign they also did a video featuring 5 women styled and produced by stylist Allie McGevna and Plus Model Mag Editor in Chief Madeline Jones featuring women that were size 18 to 26. I loved that Simply Be embraced their idea and was supportive of showcasing such size diversity.
When I was searching the vast collection of swimsuits that they have to offer I was immediately drawn to this super fun and colourful fern print. This suit is part of their Beach to Beach collection which is a budget friendly line of mix and match tops and bottoms, cover ups and one pieces. You can get this suit and cover up all for under $100! Swimsuits have definitely gotten expensive over the last few years so to find something that won’t break the bank is awesome.
I chose to get the tankini option because it is typically my favourite swimsuit silhouette when I just want an easy look. There is also a bikini top, a blouson top, a skort, bottoms with a high leg and ones with full coverage as well as a one piece suit. So whatever your style is they have you covered. It also comes in basic black and another print.
I typically buy swimsuits that have underwire in them because I am very busty and I like the support but just like wearing a bra all day long sometimes wearing a suit with underwire can be uncomfortable. So I thought I would try one without underwire for a change.
I was pleasantly surprised that this top did a pretty good job at holding the girls up because it has thick adjustable straps and the front tie is adjustable so I could cinch myself in to create more lift. I am wearing the size 28 and I felt the fit was true to size. I also loved the side ruching for some visual interest. With the print and these details the suit definitely has a retro vibe.
I am also wearing a size 28 in the bottoms which I was extremely happy with the fit. I got the full coverage option and found they had a great amount of stretch and the fabric was a good weight so it doesn’t stretch out too much and holds it shape. And while they don’t have super magical shaping powers they have enough to do the trick to ensure you feel comfortable and secure.
I decided to grab the matching cover up because I liked its simplicity. You all know I love to be glam so of course I have options in my collection that will make a statement but I also love my pieces that are more practical and perfect for traveling or just a simple day at the beach. This one is made of a soft jersey fabric and with its simple v-neck trapeze style it is a great compliment to this laid back suit. I am wearing the size 26/28.
I kept my accessories to a minimum and simply added a statement earring from my collection and these super cute wedge sandals from JD Williams. Of course I couldn’t resist that the colour matches perfectly and the straw like wedge is perfect for the beach. And of course don’t forget a great pair of sunnies!
Wearing a swimsuit doesn’t have to feel like corporal punishment ladies, it’s all about finding options that work for you and what you are comfortable with. There are more options than ever before available in plus size swim wear and I encourage you to get out there and try it.
It’s time to put away our t-shirts and baggy shorts and stop hiding because we have the same right to enjoy a day at the beach or pool as any thin person does. Life is meant to be lived and experienced, we are not meant to be sitting at home waiting till we are thin in order to feel like we have the right to enjoy it.
