Happy Friday everyone, I hope you had a great week! I am super excited for the weekend to be here, why is it that even when you have a long weekend it still never seems long enough? I think my summer sabbatical is calling my name lol. Only one more week to go…
Today on the blog we are going to feature one of my favourite brands that you haven’t seen in awhile – Melissa McCarthy Seven7. And I am pretty excited because I found a skinny jean that finally fits my thighs. Yep, that’s right, I almost couldn’t believe it.
Denim is one of the major components of Melissa McCarthy’s brand. She offers a number of different styles every season with interesting washes, details, shapes and on trend features. She also uses a great tummy control and shaping fabric that works magic in my opinion.
And why do I think it is magic? Because I can generally fit into any pair she makes in a size 28 even though they are not specifically designed for my shape. For most brands unless they are made for my shape or have a ton of stretch I typically have to size up.
I don’t wear a lot of denim because of my restrictions at the office and on my off days I like dresses, skirts and leggings. So I tend to stick to a pretty basic straight leg curvy fit in a dark wash. But painted denim has been really hot this year and as a lover of prints and colours I decided to give this trend a try.
I will admit I am always a bit nervous when I order a skinny jean because I never know if it will fit my thighs but more importantly my knee. When these came in the mail and I took them out of the package I absolutely loved the painted detail but when I looked at the leg I will admit I had that sinking feeling that they were going to be too small.
But I put them on and as soon as they went over my knee I breathed a sigh of relief – the fit was great! They honestly have so much stretch but still hug your curves, I absolutely love them. And with any denim that is made with a stretch material, they will loosen up as you wear them. I also loved the rolled cuff detail at the bottom that gives them a laid back vibe.
I decided to pair these jeans with this super cute flowy peplum blouse also from Melissa McCarthy. I love the rich teal colour and the textured fabric along with the flutter sleeves and the deep v neckline. What I didn’t love was that the neckline was a little too deep; there is no way I could wear it without a cami underneath.
I also found that the fit ran a little small, I am wearing the 4x and for the shape of the shirt I was expecting it to be a little looser. I also wished it was slightly longer in length in the front. But overall it was the perfect amount of volume to offset the skinny leg of the jeans. It will also be a great versatile piece for the office with a pencil skirt or dress pants.
Purple and teal are my two favourite colours so when they were combined in these jeans I knew I wanted to carry that through to my accessories. So I added this pretty statement necklace in lavender that I got a couple of years ago from Your Big Sister’s Closet and a simple bracelet from Avenue.
For shoes I kept things easy and simple with a cute pair of white ballet flats from JD Williams USA. And for my bag I took a staple from my collection, this lovely pale lavender lattice one from Kate Spade. This one is a few season’s old but not to worry I found you a great alternative in the same colour.
To me this is a great casual but put together look. It’s perfect for being a mom on the go, running errands, going for lunch or brunch with the girls or a laid back date. Remember great style doesn’t have to be complicated, a few key quality basics will go a long way to giving you that look you always wanted. And looking polished and put together can still be comfortable!
Special thanks to Rebecca of Rebecca Northcott Photography for capturing this look.
