Happy Tuesday everyone! I am bringing you this next post right off of my trip to NYC for Full Figured Fashion Week 2017! The week was filled with fun events, great times with my fellow influencers and the opportunity to connect with brands in person. And of course I had a fabulous adventure as the Own Your Curves Ambassador for Full Beauty. I can’t wait to share more of what we were up to behind the scenes.
There was a serious heat wave while I was in NYC and this girl certainly doesn’t do well with extreme temperatures. Thank goodness it cooled off a little mid week, particularly in time for one of the premier events of FFF Week – the Curves at Sea All White Cruise.
White parties have been a big trend in the last few years so it has been great to see more and more options available in white especially in plus sizes. And let me tell you people go all out for this event. And I like a good excuse to get all glammed up so of course I had to bring it.
As you know I have been working on a few projects recently with Sydney’s Closet and this is the final piece. It was so hard to keep it a secret because I have been so excited about this look! And while I gave you a sneak peek from the night of the cruise these photos that were taken in studio let you see the true beauty of this dress up close and personal.
When I reached out to Sydney’s Closet for the wedding dress looks I asked them if they would have anything that would work for my white party look. So when I saw a link to this dress in my inbox I admit I did a full on girly scream of delight.
This dress is part of their “Tease Prom” collection which is only available through fine dress stores nation wide. The link I provided has a store locator and a phone number to call if you are interested in purchasing it.
Being the bling loving girl that I am I was naturally drawn to this fully beaded bodice of iridescent crystals. That combined with the classic A line shape, gathered waistline, and flowy chiffon skirt provided a statement making but also classic, elegant and sophisticated look. The craftsmanship and quality of the beading is excellent. I travelled with the dress and had no issues with loose crystals etc.
I also loved the sex appeal that came with the deep v neckline. I thought it was a little unexpected for this dress! And I got to wear a regular bra which was a definite bonus in my books. And if you are concerned about the weight of the beading, it actually wasn’t that bad, I was pleasantly surprised when I first put it on and I wore it for about 8 hours comfortably.
With regards to sizing, I am wearing the size 30 and I found that it actually ran a little on the large side. I would definitely go based on your bust measurement for this dress and if you have a shorter torso you might want to consider sizing down.
Ultimately I had to have the bodice taken up at the shoulder seam. This was an easy fix as the back of the dress doesn’t have any beading. I also had it hemmed as I wore flats. For a formal gown though the alterations required were minimal and cost effective. Another great thing about this dress is that it comes in other colours – black, red and royal blue making it the perfect choice for a number of different occasions.
To style this look I wanted to play off the rainbow effect that the crystals created and so I decided to add some pops of colour and one of the year’s hottest trends, 3D flower appliques. When I have something in my mind I will search high and low to find it. And that was certainly the case with these pieces.
The shoes are from ASOS and were a total steal at only $38. I am wearing a 9W since they didn’t have half sizes. I loved how they were hidden underneath the dress but when I walked people would notice a glimpse of them and be totally surprised. They were a great conversation piece.
My earrings and clutch are both from ALDO. The earrings brought a lot of drama but surprisingly aren’t too heavy considering their size. The flowers are actually a plastic base. These are sold out in the US but still available in Canada. I had seen this clutch a few months ago and I loved it but it sold out on me and then it was back and the day before I left I was able to find the last one they had in store. This piece is super versatile and will go with so many different looks. It is also large enough to hold my IPhone 7 Plus which is very important lol. I then added this cluster bracelet that I have had for years to complete the look.
I wanted to make a statement with this look and my mission was accomplished! Thank you to everyone for the compliments about my dress and the overall look, I was extremely grateful for the love. And finally thank you to Sydney’s Closet for making my white party dreams come true. This is by far one of my most favourite looks I have ever worn in my life.
