Happy Wednesday my blogger fam! As always, I hope you are having a fantastic week! I had a fantastic time in Atlanta, it’s a beautiful city and the hospitality was amazing. Stay tuned for an upcoming post where I will give you a review of Chafe Zone and all the deets on what I wore to the events.
In the mean time I thought I would give you a double duty look that is not only spring worthy but oh so appropriate for the Kentucky Derby happening this upcoming weekend. I have never been to the Derby but I have always loved seeing the beautiful over the top hats that the women get to wear combined with their ultra feminine outfits.
Before I get into the details I will be totally honest and let you know that unfortunately this dress is sold out. It is from Roaman’s Denim 24/7 line via Full Beauty. I got it this winter because I couldn’t pass up on the amazing print and colour combination.
But I did give you a link to a beautiful yellow alternative if it’s the colour you love or an equally beautiful floral alternative with a softer colour palette. There are currently over 1,700 dresses available on Full Beauty’s website so with that many options I am sure there is something that will inspire everyone.
It was funny because I wore a cheery yellow dress to work today and I got so many compliments including strangers in the elevator. On a gloomy rainy day, colour can make things so much brighter. But I digress lol…
This dress is jammed packed with girly elements – of course there is the floral print and the sunny yellow print mixed with purple, pink, turquoise and white but there is also the ruffle neckline, the ruffled tiered skirt, the gathered waist and the Aline skirt.
I couldn’t help but smile when I put on this dress. It has a magical quality that just makes me happy. And I think it is the fact that this is a true reflection of me and my personal style. And when you look good you feel good.
I am wearing the size 34 which is realistically at least one siz too big. The 32 was sold out so I ordered the bigger size. My simple solution was to add a belt like this skinny purple one from Torrid that I had in my closet.
In order to make this a Derby worthy look you know that meant I had to wear a hat. And while I would love to have been able to buy one like the swoon worthy ones I have given you links to below, I had to take a step back and be practical. That’s because I already had this gorgeous purple wide brimmed hat from American Apparel in my collection.
This hat will never leave my closet. When I found this I was in absolute heaven. I had just started experimenting with hats and I couldn’t get over how vibrant the colour was. I love the sharp contrast of the vibrant hue of this hat against the softer palette of the dress.
For the jewellery for this look I pulled out an oldie but goodie necklace and earring set from Macy’s. I love the white iridescent stones that pick up on all the colours in the dress. And it certainly adds some drama.
I completed it with a couple of my bracelets from Boho Betty USA, the Caribbean Sea Tassel bracelet in purple and the Flamingo Twist Quad bracelet in pink. I love their bracelets because they are adjustable for different size wrists and they can be mixed and matched and stacked to create many different looks. I have already created numerous combinations with the four bracelets I have in my collection.
No look would be complete without the right shoes and bag. I chose to wear these simple but classic gold metallic sling back flats by Comfort View from Full Beauty. Saying that I love Comfort View shoes is probably a bit of an understatement.
They have pretty much been the only brand of shoe I buy lately. And until May 7th they have any amazing sale – most shoes are already 40 to 50% off and depending on how many pairs you buy, you get anywhere from an additional 25 to 40% off! Now that’s a deal I love!
And for a final touch of whimsy I added my white Coach satchel that is trimmed in yellow. I remember being so hesitant to buy this purse because of the yellow trim as I thought it would limit what I could wear it with but I have been able to pair it with so many different looks that I am so glad I took the plunge. A bag in a classic colour such as white doesn’t have to be boring.
This look may be Derby inspired but it would also be perfect for an outdoor wedding or garden party or afternoon tea. Right now though I am imagining a mint julep in one hand and a winning bet slip in the other.
Thanks to Rob of Robert Skuja Photography for the stunning images of this look.
