Happy Wednesday blogger fam! I am finally back at it after my bout with the stomach flu. It was really sad to have to stay inside all couped up in bed when it was beautiful outside but I also know it was my body’s way of saying I needed a rest. So rest I did. Now that it feels like spring is really in the air and Easter is right around the corner, I figured it was time to pull out the cute dress looks that I have been gathering over the winter. Squirrels gather acorns, I gather dresses lol.
This look is head to toe Torrid. I have been really impressed with what Torrid has brought out for spring, especially in the dress department. I am loving the prints, colours, silhouettes and unique details. Basically I want them all. With this look I am keeping to one of my favourite prints, florals but venturing out of my normal lane with this neutral colour palette. I loved pulling together all of these neutral pieces with their different textures and details to create layers of visual interest.
Naturally the look began when I chose this dress. I can definitely say that rust is not a colour I gravitate to in the least but for some reason I kept coming back to this dress every time I visited the site. Ultimately the soft floral print with yellow cream and a hint of blush won me over.
It also doesn’t hurt that it definitely has a slightly retro vibe with its fit and flare silhouette and the tie at the bust that accentuates your bust perfectly. I am usually not a fan of challis fabric because it wrinkles so easily but this one has some stretch built it which I found helped keep the wrinkles at bay.
I am wearing the 4x which is my normal Torrid size for this style of dress. The description says it is a midi length but you can see that it hits me right at the knee. But it certainly has the standard features I have come to love from my Torrid dresses such as adjustable straps that are wide enough in the front to cover your bra straps and a smocked elastic back that gives you a customizable fit.
I would be happy as a clam to run around in just the dress because I certainly don’t feel the need to cover up my arms but the weather isn’t quite warm enough for even me just yet and it still gets pretty chilly at night. That’s why I love a great layering piece like this jacket.
Now I could have taken the easy way out and threw on a shrug because I hate finding jackets that fit but I have been having more success in that department lately so I keep venturing out. And a jacket just provided a level of sophistication and style that a shrug necessarily can’t.
I have been finding more and more jackets that have a peplum silhouette which works perfectly for my shape. I loved the military styling of this particular one with its gold hardware, twill fabric and seamimg detail. And the linen hem was an unexpected mix of fabrics and texture. That combined with the neutral colour made it the perfect addition to wear with this dress. And it is a great staple to have in your wardrobe, it really can be worn with just about anything. I am wearing the 5x.
Now we have to talk a little about these shoes! I don’t know if you have checked out their new “Torrid Collection” but let me tell you that you seriously need to if you haven’t already. What I like about a brand like Torrid is that they do really listen to their customer. First it was please give us shoes period. Then it was please give us half sizes. And now I think for some of us, it was please give us the option of a higher quality shoe if we want it.
This collection is all about that high quality shoe. They are made of genuine leather and suede, the designs are elevated, they have unique details and hardware, they are true wide widths and they are comfortable. I love Torrid shoes but comfort has always been an issue for me, I found they were good for a few hours but they didn’t go the distance.
They certainly thought of everything with this collection, right down to the packaging, with the beautiful black and silver box, lined in pink and pink tissue paper, every fine detail is carefully preserved in the packaging and there is a pink shoe bag to store them and the cutest note. Be sure to check out my intsa stories for a sneak peek at this beautiful packaging.
I chose these rich cognac suede braided sandal with a block heel because not only are they beautiful but practical. Now I still have to have a conversation with someone in the shoe department about what constitutes a “mini” heel because I personally don’t feel 2 1/4 inches is mini lol but that’s for another time. I am wearing the size 8 1/2 which is my normal shoe size. And yes ladies, the ankle strap is long enough for those of us with thick ankles.
But what I noticed the minute I put them on was the comfort and support in the foot bed, they were so soft and squishy lol! So while the price point might not be for everyone I like options. And for someone who needs a supportive shoe I appreciate something that is cute too.
I decided to pull the look together with this faux suede and crystal choker. I gave a hard time finding chokers to fit but this one fit perfectly and I loved how the crystal popped against the dress and jacket. I then added these beaded bracelets that picked up on all the colours in the look, complete with the suede bow. Finally a little bit of blush was in order. After all it is the new neutral and with its studded accents it gave the look some girly edge.
I honestly couldn’t be more thrilled with how this look came together. Ultimately I love Torrid because they provide so many different options that the ability to express different sides of my personality and also find new ones are endless.
Thanks to Rob of Robert Skuja Photography for the stunning images of this look.
