Happy Tuesday peeps, you know what a new day means this week? A new Holiday Double Slay post!
Today’s look features my good friend Caterina Moda, plus model extraordinaire and voice of the blog caterinamoda.com. Some of you may recognize as her as one of the faces of SexyPlus Clothing, one of my favourite local boutiques. I had the opportunity to meet Cat through Stefanie, the owner of SexyPlus and I was immediately drawn to her warm and inviting personality.
No matter what, Cat always has a smile on her face and we have a blast when we get to hang out. I mean she is a fellow Italian and pear shaped beauty so what’s not to love? I admire the hard work and dedication she has put into successfully growing her modelling career and brand, particularly in the last year. And not to mention she works with kids and is a kick ass boxer!
To celebrate our thick thighs and curvy hips, for our Holiday Double Slay, we thought it would be fun to twin the same dress. Cat has been super supportive of my quest to bring visibility to the higher end of the plus size range and I can’t say thank you enough for the support. We both believe strongly in the importance of size diversity in the media. Cat herself is an 18/20 so she is not your “standard” model size. She is also super encouraging when I try to strut my stuff (she still needs to teach me a few of her moves lol). To see Cat’s review of this dress, click here.
I think it is always interesting to see the same dress on two different bodies and in different sizes. I will sometimes post a look with a side by side comparison to the model and it is amazing how they will look almost nothing alike. And with Cat and I, we are on opposite ends of the spectrum, she is wearing the 1x and I am wearing the 4x in this Ciara Cinch Dress in this super fun peacock print by designer Kiyonna.
Ladies don’t be afraid to wear a dress that wouldn’t be considered your typical “holiday” fare for any of your upcoming festivities. There is no rule that says you have to be covered in sequins or velvet or jewel tones to be in the festive spirit. And if you don’t have the opportunity to wear a cocktail dress often you might as well invest in a piece that can be repurposed. This dress is perfect for the office, church, brunch, date night and pretty much anything else you could think of.
This dress is the perfect silhouette for all shapes. It is a faux wrap style so it works for those of with hips and it also has some ruching and an inset detail at the side that help draw the eye to the narrowest part of your body and mask any stomach concerns for my apple shaped girls. And it is double lined providing that extra layer of coverage.
So what I think makes this dress work for a holiday event is the colour palette. The rich teal and olive green combined with hits of pink/burgundy create a vibrant print. I also love that it can be dressed up with the right accessories like what I have done here. By adding these sequin metallic shoes from Eloquii and metallic 3D floral applique purse from Aldo we have immediately upped the glam factor. The finishing touch was this gold double orb lariat from Caterina’s Choker Chick collection available exclusively at SexyPlus.
It’s important to realize that we are all beautiful just the way we are and looking good in an outfit is not about your size or shape but finding something that you love and that you feel makes you look fabulous. And a good dose of self love, confidence and the belief that you are worthy certainly help.
Special thanks to SexyPlus Clothing for helping me make this project possible, be sure to check them out for all of your holiday party looks. And thank you to my girl Cat for agreeing to be a part of it all.
A huge thanks to Stef of Stefanie Augusteijn Photography for these beautiful photos.
