Happy Friday everyone, I hope you had a great week and your weekend is fantastic!
Today on the blog I am featuring another look from the Fall 2016 Melissa McCarthy Seven7 line.
I am really inspired seeing pictures of Melissa McCarthy rocking pieces from her line. There is just something about how happy she looks and how everything fits her perfectly that truly makes them special and grabs my attention.
So it was no surprise that when I saw the spectacular photo of her wearing this dress that I immediately fell in love. I mean she had already hit me with my favourite things – floral print, girly details and the colour so when you added that it was meant to be.
I also had been wanting to try one of her dresses as I hadn’t yet so I thought this would be the perfect choice. So what did I think?
Well to say that I adore this dress is not an understatement in the least. Now I will admit that is not an inexpensive piece at $169 US but sometimes you just have to invest in something special and unique for your wardrobe.
And I totally understand that everyone’s definition of an investment piece price point may be different. Maybe you feel that this is too expensive but maybe it will also inspire you to try something that is out of the box for you or to make that “investment” purchase that is at a price point you feel comfortable with.
The floral print on this dress completely reminds me of a garden tea party. It has a very vintage feel with the soft blush/peach colour but with a modern twist due to the infusion of rich green, bright yellow and flowers that are actually outlined in a dark purple if you look closely. I will be honest and say that the picture on the website of this dress does not doe it justice. The colours are much more vibrant in person.
Melissa has a great balance of casual and dressier pieces in her collection. With her dressier pieces like this you will find great details that definitely elevate them to another level of sophistication. This dress is romantic and feminine without being revealing. From the pleats to the 3/4 length sleeve to the dramatic bow tie top, to the sweeping floor length hem to the pockets (yes it has pockets!), it has it all.
I am wearing the 4x in this dress. Keep in mind that this fabric has no stretch to it. I was very happy with the fit except for one thing – I found the upper arm to be a little tighter than I would like. This is something that I noticed with her very first collection and I find that it can still be an issue at times with her pieces that have no stretch. Melissa – we need a little bit more wiggle room in the arm please!
Although you can’t see them, I am wearing a flat in these pictures. Keep in mind that I am 5’6 so if you are petite this is definitely something that would need to be shortened. I can appreciate that her pieces are long enough to fit those of us who are taller as I have a few friends that are much taller than me and it is very hard to find full length dressed that are actually long enough for them. As they always tell me ladies we can shorten something but they can’t add fabric!
This dress speaks for itself so accessorizing it should be really simple. But I am not exactly one to stick to simple so when I found these bold feather earrings for a $1 on clearance at H&M and realized that the yellow totally popped against this dress I just couldn’t resist. So while you won’t be able to find these exact earrings I did provide links for a couple of alternatives.
I then added my go to mixed metallic bangles from Penningtons and my new Coach nomad hobo bag in this gorgeous green. This bag is sold out online but I provided the link to its smaller sister. And I am currently totally obsessed with fur pom pom’s for my bags so I added this beige one from the The Bay for some fun and texture.
I feel like a million bucks in this dress and so worth it. As a plus size woman I am grateful to see the continued expansion of fashion choices that are available to us. Yes there is still a long way to go and there is more that I want to see, especially in sizes above a 24 but if we keep making our voices heard I believe we will get there. For me personally, I am grateful that someone with the star power of Melissa got in the game and included these sizes.
I would like to say a special thank you to the Art Gallery of Burlington for allowing us to shoot these photos in their beautiful space. This amazing garden is located inside the AGB and is one of the many hidden treasures you will find there right in the heart of downtown Burlington, Ontario. Be sure to check them out using the links above.
Thanks to Robert of Robert Skuja Photography for these amazing photos and the vision to use this backdrop.
