Happy Wednesday everyone, is it the weekend yet?
Today on the blog we are featuring the second instalment of my Avenue Look Book. For this look I focused on choosing something for the office. Avenue really is a one stop shop for whatever kind of look you are in need of so it is great to be able to find so much variety in one store. We all lead such busy lives that I really appreciate anything that can make my life a little easier.
I think Avenue is well known for offering a great selection of work wear that is perfect for any office environment. I will admit that they may have a reputation for catering to an older clientele but I have definitely noticed some changes in the last few years and feel that they are trying to appeal to the younger customer too. I was really impressed with what I saw as a fall preview at Full Figured Fashion Week.
So after looking at the numerous choices that they have to offer I decided to choose something that I would call effortless chic. It is the perfect look to put on when you are in a hurry, tired or maybe feeling a bit blah but you still need to go to work and want to look put together.
I was immediately drawn to this A line midi skirt in a medium shade of grey. Firstly I love a midi skirt length for the office because I find it is the most comfortable and I never have to worry about showing too much leg when I sit down and on the other hand I am not completely covered up.
Secondly I loved the idea of it having an A line cut to it because it is a nice mix between a full skirt and a pencil skirt. I love the look of a pencil skirt but sometimes I can find them uncomfortable to wear for a long day at the office.
But what really spoke to me was this awesome textured tonal print and the knit fabric. Geometrics are being seen all over this fall and the texture in this skirt makes it not only on trend but also visually interesting and adds that touch of sophistication making it not just an ordinary skirt.
This skirt is completely practical with an elastic waist which let’s face it I think we all love to put on some days. I am wearing the size 30/32 and I actually felt it was a little big, I could have sized down if I had wanted a more fitted looking silhouette.
I love the colour red so when I saw this top I knew that it was a must have. It is a rich beautiful shade of merlot and made of polyester/spandex blend. I know some people don’t love this type of material but for me I like how effortless it is and falls nicely over my curves.
What I like about this top is it is perfect just on its own. I don’t need a jacket or a sweater or a shrug to wear overtop because it has the right combination of elements that are perfect for fall. That’s right it has 3/4 length sleeves, a surplice bodice that doesn’t show too much cleavage, an empire waist and an asymmetrical hem with a cascading ruffle. And it is a great length – not too short and not too long!
I am wearing the 30/32 and again I would consider trying the size down but wanted to go with a more relaxed feel. This top would also look fantastic with a pencil skirt. And if red is not your colour it also comes in a beautiful royal blue or basic black.
Normally I was just through on a cute flat with this type of look but I decided to give my new shooties that I featured in my first Avenue look a go. I have to say when I first saw the pictures I wasn’t 100% sure I loved them with this look but then it grew on me. I really loved the ruched detail and the metallic accent. And they are super comfortable.
I also wanted to show off the versatility of the accessories I chose. I completely understand that not everyone has the clothing budget I do or the love for accessories that I do and that’s ok. If you get some key accessories in metallics and some pops of colour they can work with many different outfits.
For this look I kept the same gold earrings and the bracelets to add some more colour and then I added this black and gold beaded necklace. This is a great statement necklace to invest in because it will go with just about anything. Finally I played on the black and gold in the necklace by using the wristlet and adding a black pouf for a little fun. This is something that you could easily throw into your full size purse and use to go out for dinner or drinks after work.
I love hearing from my followers so tell me, what is your go to look for work? What makes you feel effortlessly chic?
Stay tuned for the last look coming to you on Friday!
