Happy Monday everyone, I hope you had a great weekend. Today I am going to finally start talking about a topic this has been high on the request list from my fabulous followers and readers and that is bras! I think that finding the right bras and a good fit is a challenge for all women no matter what their size so it is a topic that we can all relate to.
But being plus size does bring it’s added challenges, particularly in finding brands that carry our size. Over the next few months I will shine the spotlight on several brands that I have encountered on my quest for bras. I believe that a good fitting bra is key to helping a woman feel her best and that it really can make or brake an outfit. What we wear underneath is just as important as the clothes themselves. Because a poor fitting bra will definitely detract from the look of an outfit.
First up is a new online retailer I found – Q-T Intimates. What I really liked when I first started researching this brand is that they cater to woman of all shapes and sizes and offer solutions for many different needs whether it be regular sizes, plus sizes, nursing, dance and yoga, shapewear, loungewear and accessories. It was a one stop shopping solution. And they ship internationally!
I also had the pleasure of speaking with Liz Marrell, the brand’s Creative Director and learn what they are all about. I decided to put 4 different styles of bras that Q-T offers to the test. When I was making my selections what I loved was having so many different options available to me in my size. I wear a 44/46DDD and finding bras in a band size larger than a 44 is definitely a challenge. And finding, pretty and sexy ones, well that is a whole other story!
I have to say I was also very impressed with the price point. I think we all know how expensive bras can be, particularly in the plus size arena so to find beautiful bras in lace and rich vibrant colours for only $21 to $45 US regular price was fantastic in my opinion. And they also carry matching panties in sizes up to a 4x (fits a 24/26). I don’t know about you but I hate finding pretty bras in my size and then not being able to find matching panties.
I tried the following bras: the La Femme Fatale in black; the Kelly in cobalt blue; the Bettina in pink and the Celina in turquoise. My band size will vary depending on the bra so I tried the La Femme Fatale in a 44 since that it is the largest band width it comes in and the rest in a 46DDD. So how did they fit? I am happy to share that they all fit amazing. I felt the sizing was consistent from the band to the cup and the 44 band fit me on the last hook in comparison to being able to wear the 46 in the middle.
The colours and lace are absolutely gorgeous. I love the little detail of the rhinestone on the Bettina and the cobalt blue on the Kelly is so rich and elegant. They all have adjustable straps that I found had the right amount of support. I appreciated that they stayed put and that the bras didn’t ride up in the back or dig in at the sides. Each of the bras carries a different amount of support depending on the style (for example the Kelly is not padded) but they all served their purpose depending on what your personal preferences are and for the outfit you may be wearing.
In terms of sizing, what is available will vary depending on the bra but I found it to be very wide in range. Here is the sizing info on the bras I tried:
- La Femme Fatale – 36 to 42 C-G, 44 C-DDD
- Kelly – 34 to 44 C-DDD, 46 to 48 D-DDD
- Bettina – 32 to 36, 40 C-G, 38, 42 to 46 C-DDD
- Celina – 36 to 38 C-DDD, 40 to 46 C-DDD
I personally believe that wearing pretty bras can make a woman feel great about herself and that no matter our size we all have the right to feel this way.
