Happy Thursday everyone, are you ready for the weekend yet?
Today’s post is Part 2 of my review of the Ashley fit pant from Lane Bryant.
For this look I decided to try one of the year’s biggest trends in bottoms and that is the culotte. Culottes are basically pants that are meant to look like an a line skirt. I love the look of a culotte because the wide width of the leg works with my shape and I feel like there is an air of sophistication to them.
Like many trends though I found that I couldn’t find a pair that worked for me because even though the cut is generous, it still wasn’t enough to make it work on my hips and thighs. And then I saw this pair on the LB website and I was super excited because I finally thought I had a chance to make this trend work for me.
As I mentioned in my previous post, LB has really stepped up their game in the pants department. Not only do they offer the 3 different shapes but they also offer 5 different leg styles – ankle, trouser, slim leg, boot and wide leg in all 3 shapes!
That’s right – for example you can get these culottes in both the Lena and Ashley fits. In fact right now there are 15 different styles and colours of pants available on the website in the Ashley fit alone. The Ashley fit is only available online but I have found the fit to be very consistent across the different styles so I would be confident in ordering your normal size. I am wearing the size 28.
The other thing that they have added to the website is better information in the description. Each description tells you what fit they are and provides a reminder of what shape that fit is for, the leg shape and what that means, the fabric if it is something special like the tailored stretch and if the pants come in petite/short, regular and tall/long what the inseams are for each. You honestly can’t make buying pants online any easier.
I am wearing the Tailored Stretch Belted Glenplaid Culotte. I loved the classic look of the black and white glenpaid print combined with the same tailored stretch fabric as the trousers from my other look.
The fabric provides great comfort but holds its shape. And the matching fabric belt was a nice detail. I love a fabric belt because it looks much better when you sit down as there is no gape from a hard material like leather.
I decided to stick to a simple colour palette of black and white and played with pattern and texture. First was this beautiful Point D’Esprit blouse with a bow tie neckline.
This classic fabric is a great alternative to a bolder polka dot and provides pretty feminine details like the double button cuff and sheerness. I just added a plain cami underneath. If you wanted to wear this out on the town you might be willing to be daring and just wear this with a beautiful lace bra.
I then added this graphic printed “overpiece”. Overpiece is a new term I have been seeing that is used to describe what I like to call hybrid pieces. In this case, it is part vest and part cardigan. The material is super soft and I loved the side slits, the pockets and the length on this piece. And its a great weight to carry you into the winter months.
For accessories I kept with black and added my patent leather wedges from Simply Be, these great black and gold geometric earrings from Lane Bryant, and this black and gold marbled bracelet also from Lane Bryant.
Finally I added a little extra style and pop of colour with this great burgundy hat with black beaded trim from Lane Bryant and my burgundy Coach bag.
This look is fun, stylish and sophisticated put uncomplicated all at once. It’s a great look to transition from the office to a night out. And maybe just maybe I felt like dancing in it!
This look was provided care of Lane Bryant but all opinions are my own.
Thank you to Robert of Robert Skuja Photography for the photos.
