Happy Friday my loyal readers, I hope you have a fantastic weekend. Today I have a special treat for you, a surprise blog post and something I have never done before – I am going to show you how I styled one skirt 3 different ways. So you may be wondering what skirt inspired me to style it 3 different ways? It would be the infamous twirl skirt in Pumpkin Spice from Society+.
The twirl skirt is a Society+ exclusive design. That means that it comes in their full size range of 14 to 32. Of course that is one of my number one reasons that I love Society+. From day one, honest sizing and a desire to offer a full size range despite the challenge that this is in the plus size clothing industry has been a priority. As a size 26/28 herself, Creative Director, Jessica Kane understands what is like to not be able to find clothes in the upper end of the size range and she has been on a mission to make stylish options available to all of us ladies. As a business woman I personally appreciate the effort and hard work that has been put in to get to where they are now in less than 2 years. I can’t way to see the day when they are able to offer a full collection of exclusive designs.
I have this skirt in I think 4 different colours and prints now. It is what I like to call a “go to” wardrobe staple for me. Just today I wasn’t feeling that great and I didn’t know what to wear so I pulled out my twirl skirt in the salmon print, grabbed a cute shirt and in an instant I felt polished and effortlessly put together. It made me feel that I could take on whatever the day brought.
A great maxi skirt is the perfect basic to add to your wardrobe. But not all maxi skirts are created equal. What makes this one special is…, come on, you know what I am going to say…, the details! They start off with a nice thick elastic waistband that is gathered so it doesn’t look frumpy. Then they add the perfect accessory – pockets. And finally they choose quality fabrics that are a nice weight for each season, that don’t require lining and are pretty wrinkle resistant. This skirt is made to be worn high waisted and the fit is very generous, I am wearing the 22/24.
You all know that I love to wear colour (it just makes me instantly happy) so when the latest twirl skirts were released and I saw this gorgeous pumpkin colour I was in love. I truly believe that buying clothes is an emotional experience and the pieces that really get us are the ones that evoke positive emotions in us. After all, clothes are an expression of who we are and finding ones that “speak” to us are definitely keepers in my books.
I believe this is particularly true for women who are plus size because most of us have gone through a good portion of our life without these kinds of options available to us. I know that I didn’t get to experience that same emotional connection to shopping and clothes that my straight size friends did when I was in high school. It was always in my mind choosing between the lesser of two evils – no shape or something my grandmother would wear. When I bought this skirt I didn’t have any idea what I was going to wear with it. But when I was working on organizing my closet recently, I kept finding pieces that I realized would look great with it. That’s when I decided to put my skills to the test and style it 3 ways. I am going to be upfront and tell you that these shirts are all older pieces from my closet that are no longer available but I have provided links for some great alternatives.
First I styled it to wear to the office. I chose to pair it with a cute cropped off white lace top from eShakti, a statement necklace with a pop of orange, some fun bangles, simple metallic flats and my stone colour studded Coach bag. You can look and feel confident going to work without making it complicated.
Then I styled it to wear casually on the weekend. I chose to pair it with a pretty floral tank from Torrid that brought in a nice contrast of some slate blue, one of my favourite Torrid statement necklaces, some fun bangles, the same metallic flats and bag. This option is again simple but looks great for running errands, brunch or activities with the family. I love the boho feel.
Finally, I wanted to dress it up for date night. I chose to pair it with a silky charcoal blouse from Additionelle that really brought a richness and level of sophistication to the look. I chose to keep my necklace, bracelets and shoes all in the metallic family to play off the shirt. And finally to make a statement, I added this patterned clutch from Simply Be. This look is luxurious with a touch of glam but still easy to put together and comfortable!
Well there you have it ladies, an affordable, stylish and versatile piece that can take you anywhere you need to go. And I have the best news for you – today they are having a 40% off flash sale on all twirl skirts! Click here to start shopping!
