Hi everyone I hope you have had a wonderful week and yeah the weekend is finally here!
Today’s post is all about this fabulous dress that I scored from indie plus size designer Yona New York while I was in New York for Full Figured Fashion Week.
You may recall that I featured my first Yona piece on the blog back in the fall, that wonderful charcoal grey duster. So when I found out that Yona was going to be showcasing their new line at the Celebrate My Size expo at FFF week I was so excited to be able to se the pieces in person.
It was important to me to see the pieces in person because the current size range only goes up to a 24 so it would give me a better sense of what pieces may fit me.
I have to say I was not disappointed. The pieces are absolutely gorgeous and the quality of the construction and fabrics used are top knotch.
I also got the chance to meet Yona, her husband and daughter and that was an extra treat. She really is a fabulous down to earth and inspiring woman. And it was nice to see that this was clearly a family business.
I have had my eye on the Empire Dress in Blue for a few months. It has a beautiful shape with an empire seamed waist that emphasizes the smallest part of your body and outlines your bust beautifully.
And the gently flared skirt with a handkerchief hem is fun and flirty. I also thought it was a practical and versatile length. And it has my favourite – a v neckline. It was the perfect piece that would work for the office and then transition to a night out afterwards.
I loved the tonal blue print and the fact that the v shaped stripes are super flattering as they draw your eye in. It is both a strong and subdued print at the same time.
I couldn`t have been happier when I slipped on the size 24 and it fit me perfectly. I have to say that I am impressed to find a designer that is making `true` to size plus size clothes and not junior plus sizing. I would say that the sizing is actually generous.
When I accessorized this look I decided to play up on the different shades of blue and added this multi layer chunky necklace from Lane Bryant. I love the soft turquoise with the splash of yellow. It added that pop to the dress. The bracelets are also from Lane Bryant and come as a set.
I chose to keep my shoe neutral with these great jeweled sandals from Avenue and added one of my special clutches from Cameo de Bore that I also purchased while I was in NYC. I loved how the cut out detail on the clutch played against the pattern in the dress.
If you haven’t checked out Yona New York, I recommend you do! And if you are my size and know your body type, go for it, I think you may be surprised with the fit. Yona New York is now one of the many luxury brands that can be purchased through Hey Gorgeous.
So tell me, where would you wear this dress – the office, date night, church, brunch? I think the possibilities are endless!
Special thanks to Robert of Robert Skuja Photography for the photos and capturing a big smile, a rarity for me!
