For today’s post I am going to talk about a new brand for the blog – SmartGlamour.
SmartGlamour is an affordable, fashionable, and customizable ethical clothing line for people of all shapes, sizes, heights, ages, identities, and styles.
Mallorie Dunn, the designer behind this brand based out of NYC believes very strongly that any and every item can be customized to fit any and every body. Every one of her designs is available in XXS to 6X and beyond. And if that wasn’t enough, she makes every piece herself!
I came across Mallorie’s brand last year and I was really impressed with her designs and extremely delighted to know that she made pieces in my size. I love the fabrics she finds in great bold colours and fantastic prints and that her styles have that feminine edge. And they are practical for every day life.
We had struck up a bit of an online friendship and I am always watching for her sneak peeks of new fabrics that she finds that she lets you pre order. So when she posted the fabric for this dress I knew I immediately had to have something made in it. It was of course my favourite, floral but it also had hits of different neon colours which is a huge trend for summer. And when I saw her design with the bold orange band at the waist, the deal was sealed.
I am wearing the Valentina Racerback Dress. This dress is a perfect go to staple for your wardrobe. It is very versatile and can be worn for day and night. The great thing about Mallorie’s designs is that she offers them in many different colours and fabrics. So if you don’t love floral or neon that’s okay, she is sure to have something that suits your taste. And this dress is a steal at $60 US!
So the other great thing about SmartGlamour pieces is that you can customize them to your exact measurements. You can also customize the length or anything else that you find challenging in fitting your body.
I really like investing in pieces that are custom made to my measurements because they fit perfectly and account for the challenges that I face for my pear shape. I am also an avid fan of being able to add length to my dresses. So of course I did that with this dress.
Please keep in mind that Mallorie hand sews every garment so it takes about 10 to 14 business days before they are ready to be shipped. She also ships internationally and at a very reasonable cost I must say.
When I styled this look I wanted to play off the many different colours in the dress and fact that there were the bright pops of neon but also some soft pastels. I started with this great turquoise sandal from Avenue.
Then I added a statement necklace in a soft green and floral pattern from Francesca’s and a simple white stone bracelet from Lane Bryant. The final touch was adding a bit of wow with this animal print mixed media clutch from Aldo. And I can’t forget my new favourite sunnies by Christian Siriano for Lane Bryant.
I decided that I wanted to wear this dress to Curvy Con because I wanted to wear something that was unique and would stand out from the crowd. Well let me tell you that my mission was certainly accomplished as it was a huge hit. And for a long day, it was super comfortable!
Because I was in NYC for Full Figured Fashion Week and Curvy Con I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to meet Mallorie in person. She is one of the nicest people you will ever meet and her passion for what she does clearly shines through. I was lucky enough to snag a few new pieces while I was there so be sure to stay tuned to see what I got.
I have great respect for the work that Mallorie does and her efforts in the body positive community and empowering women. She recently launched a campaign entitled “What’s #InYourSize?”and I strongly encourage you to check it out because what she has done is truly amazing.
