Happy Wednesday my loyal blog family, can’t believe it is June already!
Today’s post is about my decision to take a huge risk in my fashion choices and the amazing outfit that I ended up with as a result.
Although I am comfortable in my own skin and confident when it comes to my body, like anyone else there are still little things that bother me and have made me steer away from certain styles of clothing. In the end we are all human and I think this reaction is totally natural.
For me I constantly struggle with my thighs. I like my pear shape and I am okay with the fact that I carry most of my weight in the lower half of my body but it is a real struggle to find pants that fit and sometimes depending on the fabric you will see every lump and bump and that makes me uncomfortable.
I also struggle with finding bottoms that fit at my knee, for example a skinny pant or jean can be a night mare for me because they fit everywhere else but at the knee. So given my challenges when I do find pants that fit me I tend to buy multiple pairs and I stick to black or dark denim. But recently there have been so many amazing options available in colour which is a huge trend right now. And you know how much I love colour!
One of my go to options is the Ashley pant from Lane Bryant. This style has been a recent addition to their line up and a much needed one. Back in the day I used to love when LB had the 3 shapes for their pants, the curvy option was my absolute favourite. So when they revamped their pant styles and originally only came out with the Sophie and Lena, I was left without an option that worked for me because the Lena just didn’t have enough room in the hips and thigh.
But thank goodness LB listened to their customers and brought out the Ashley which is designed for hourglass shapes that are very curvy through the hips and thighs. I can’t tell you how much I love these pants! At first they only came out with the basics but this spring they started showing up on the website in ankle length, crops and fun colours and prints too.
While looking at the new arrivals one day I saw that the ankle version had come out in this awesome neon yellow colour. I loved them so much but I still had this voice in my head telling me to get the black, that I wasn’t going to like putting a “neon” sign on my lower half.
But I managed to talk myself into trying them. I mean worse comes to worse, I would return them and get the black. Remember I always tell you not to be afraid to take a risk so I have to sometimes give myself a dose of the same medicine.
When I took these pants out of the package I remember thinking man these are so bright! I put them on and I fell in love. These pants are made out of a super flattering double weave stretch fabric that falls perfectly and disguises all my lumps and bumps. They have a cute side slit at the ankle and a hidden elastic in the waistband to ensure a perfect fit. Now I am 5’6 and I find that the pants are a little long for ankle length if you are wearing flats but with the slit I felt they worked. I am wearing the size 28 and the fit is true to size.
Now I could have played things safe and paired these pants with a simple white or black top but I had also ordered this amazing colourful and fun abstract peplum top also from Lane Bryant. And when I saw the two pieces together I knew I had to go for it.
Please don’t be upset with me but this top sold out online in a flash. You still might be able to find it in store. I have provided you with some alternative tops that I think would pair fabulously with these pants. Don’t be afraid to mix a fun print or colour combo with coloured pants, this is definitely the year to give it a try.
To accessorize this fun casual look I added this amazing statement necklace from Gilded Official, turquoise stone earrings and statement ring from Avenue and a silver cuff bracelet also from Avenue. Avenue has really great accessory options, I highly recommend that you check them out. I then paired it with some low key silver strappy sandals, also from Avenue and my Kate Spade quilted bag in this lovely shade of blue.
So there you have it, this look might not be for everyone but you could easily wear these pants with simpler pieces and totally make them your own. In the end I am so happy I took the risk and don’t laugh but I also bought them in black too!
Thank you to Robert of Robert Skuja Photography for the killer photos.
