Happy Wednesday everyone, I hope all my awesome readers are doing fantastic!
Well May has finally arrived and the weather is still being a little uncooperative here but things are finally starting to turn the corner. And tax season is over and it is my birthday month so all in all I am excited to see what the month brings.
I have patiently been waiting for the weather to warm up so that I can start to wear the stash of new spring dresses that I have picked up over the course of the last few months.
We all have our favourite types and pieces of clothing whether it be jeans, skirts, leggings, tunics, t-shirts or pajamas lol. For me I am definitely dress obsessed. I don’t know what it is but I always feel fantastic in a great looking dress.
So the dress featured in this post is from Lane Bryant. They are definitely one of my go to sources for dresses for work and play. They always have a large selection to choose from and when I get them on sale I find the price point pretty reasonable, even with the exchange rate. And the bottom line is that this type of selection in a size 28 is just not available in Canada.
Since I have a closet full of dresses I do look for ones that speak to me when I scroll through a website or shop in store. I generally want something that is going to be work appropriate and has something a little special to it or is in a colour that I love or is currently on trend.
When I saw this beauty I was immediately drawn to the bright coral colour in direct contrast to the rest of the neutral black, beige and white print. I loved the fact that it is a geometric print as well.
Then I was excited about the neckline as it was higher than what I would normally wear but would show a bit of shoulder instead.
Of course the most interesting aspect of this dress is the half tie concept. When I first saw the dress I had a hard time imagining how this was going to work no matter how many times I read the description and looked at the pictures. But it was such an unexpected touch that I had to give it a try.
I am wearing the size 28 in this dress. For a dress made of a non stretch fabric and with some structure to it I felt it was true to size. And there was enough room in the bust which can sometimes be a problem with higher necklines.
I absolutely fell in love with the tie only being in the front as soon as I put it on. I loved that I could accentuate my waist from the front but leave it flowy and more boho looking from the back. As you can see in the pictures, this dress moves beautifully with some wind action.
This is a great multi purpose dress. It is office appropriate (you can always wear a cute jacket or sweater if you can’t go sleeveless at work), but is also super chic for date night, a warm weather vacation or Church and brunch on Sunday.
I really wanted the coral in the dress to stand out so I chose to keep my accessories in a neutral palette. I loved the look of my new flatform sandals from Eloquii with this dress. For more details on these shoes, you can read my previous post here.
I then added some statement earrings and coordinating bracelets from Aldo to play up the neckline of the dress. I love Aldo accessories. They have fantastic pieces at a great price point. Finally I added my Coach puddy colour shoulder bag with its gold studs. This bag is going to be a staple of my spring wardrobe.
I can’t wait to take this dress for a real life test drive so stay tuned to my Instagram to see it live in action as an #ootd. And I can’t wait to share some more of my spring dress picks with you soon!
Thank you to Robert of Robert Skuja Photography for the beautiful photos.
