Happy Tuesday everyone, I can’t believe we are approaching the end of February already!
Today’s post focuses on finding that all important staple piece for any girl’s wardrobe, the little black dress.
I believe that the little black dress can come in many forms – one for the office, one for date night, and one for a wedding or other semi-formal event.

In my career as a CPA I work with a lot of not for profit organizations. Fundraisers are a major source of income for many of these clients so I have the opportunity to attend several charity galas each year. And while I have a closet full of dresses to choose from (yes, I have a problem lol…) I often hear my colleagues or friends trying to figure out what to wear if they have to go to an event like this.
I have even had followers ask me about what to wear for weddings etc. When you don’t love getting dressed up or don’t have the need to very often, the cost of a semi-formal dress can seem a bit steep.
That is why I recommend investing in a quality timeless piece that is suitable for many different types of events and in a silhouette that you love and feel beautiful in. A piece like this can easily be changed up with the use of different accessories, more dramatic make up or having your hair done in an updo.
I love this dress because it is a classic A-line silhouette which is universally flattering for all body types. It also has sleeves for my gals who want some arm coverage without having to worry about a shrug or wrap. Keeping to the colour black makes it appropriate all year round. The lace adds a pretty feminine quality to the dress and it falls just below the knee – the perfect length for any event. It is rare nowadays to actually see black tie require floor length gowns.

I am wearing the 4x in this dress which is my typical Kiyonna size. I did find that the sleeves are a little tight in the upper arm area so if you have any concern in this area, you may need to size up.
I decided to keep my accessories classic and elegant when shooting this look. I added a belt with some bling from Torrid to define my waist and create a nice contrast against the lace. Then I added my rhinestone bracelet and long crystal earrings for some sparkle.
Finally I paired it with my go to silver clutch and peep toe heels. A red lip completed the look.
If I wanted to change up the look of the dress I would add some accessories in a bold colour such as red or fuchsia or even a pattern, maybe some animal print? Black doesn’t have to be boring, your options are really endless.
So I have a gala coming up, I guess it’s time to figure out what to wear!
