Happy Friday my loyal readers, I hope you have an amazing weekend!
I thought we would end the week with a dynamic new post highlighting my latest collaboration with my fellow blogger boo Thera of Cloud 14+ once again featuring one of our favourite brands, Eloquii.
Thera and I both have a huge love for fashion and especially well made and high quality fashion forward designs and Eloquii never disappoints. Right after Christmas, they were having a big clearance sale and while I was doing my usual scroll of the deals to be had, I thought to myself, I wonder what the same piece would look like on both of us? And how would we each style it?
So I of course immediately contacted my boo and that is how this collaboration was born. And I personally think it is a unique perspective.
We couldn’t be more different – she is 6’1, I am 5’6; I am a pear shape and she is an apple shape; she is a size 20, I am a size 28. And her sense of style is always fierce and edgy where I tend to be more classic with a twist.
I was immediately drawn to this skirt because of the details – the asymmetrical hem where it transitions to the chiffon, the different textures, the pleats, the slit in the leg. It just all came together for one special piece. And we got it on sale for $17.49! You certainly can’t beat that!
I am wearing the size 28. The fit is true to size and it is floor length on me. I chose to wear tights with it to minimize the amount of thigh I was showing. I have to admit that when I finally had the skirt in front of me, I had difficulty in determining what I would wear with it.
I knew I wanted to stick to black to create a monochromatic look and to not chop myself in half. The skirt is very figure hugging on top and with my shape I didn’t want to overemphasize it.
So after several things came out of my closet in an attempt to create a cohesive look, I finally struck magic with this beautiful lace peplum blouse by Isabel Toledo for Lane Bryant. I bought this blouse 2 winters ago and it has been a classic elegant staple in my wardrobe.
The craftsmanship and beauty of the pieces that she designed for Lane Bryant are second to none. The scalloped edge, the pattern of the lace and the thick satin bow at the waist all scream luxury.
I liked that because it was lace it was light weight and just added a touch of volume to balance out the figure hugging skirt. The combination of the lace and the pleats gave the outfit a romantic feel.
When it came to accessorizing, Thera and I switched up our normal tendencies. She went for the bold pops of colour and pattern and I stuck to metallic neutrals. I love this clutch from Aldo, it has a classic vintage vibe. I decided to only wear an arm cuff for a touch of drama and then finally my sparkly black flats from Lane Bryant.
I think this post highlights something that we as a community are craving and that is more body diversity. We want to see women in the clothes that look like what we might look like.
It also shows that a piece can work on many different body types, that you don’t have to look like the model to be able to wear something that makes you feel fabulous.
Ladies, as I always say don’t be afraid to try something. More often than not I would argue that we can all totally rock whatever we want, it’s about having the confidence to take a risk, allow yourself to feel great and also to put your own personal touch on something.
Thera, it is always a blast shooting with you and pulling together looks. Love you!
Thanks to our other boo Stef of the blog Sassy Plus for capturing our vision in these gorgeous photos.
