Happy Tuesday everyone! It’s hard to believe the end of 2015 is just around the corner.
Today’s post is a timely look considering the winter storm that hit us here in Ontario yesterday. I don’t often get bundled up but I definitely needed it yesterday.
A cozy sweater is something that I know many women love to wear in the cold winter months. For me, I barely like to wear long sleeves, never mind a sweater that isn’t a layer that I can take off.
However, when I saw this one from Point Zero Curvy at SexyPlus I decided to give it a try. I liked that it was in one of my favourite colour combinations – black and white and it had a hint of sparkle with the silver lurex thread throughout. I also liked that it was a lightweight knit and that the hem has split sides which makes it easier to fit my hips.
I did have one hesitation and that was the cowl neck. I don’t wear anything with a high neck typically because I hate feeling constricted and claustrophobic. But I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with the neckline on this sweater. It is the right mix between giving you the cozy feel of a high neck but big enough to let you breathe. I am wearing the 3x.
This sweater can be a very versatile part of your wardrobe. Jeans, leggings, a skirt or pants would all look great. Here I chose to pair it with a pair of wide leg trousers by Isabel Toledo for Lane Bryant from last year.
I saw this is an easy look to pull out and wear to the office on a chilly winter morning. So while you can’t buy these pants anymore I would like to stress the importance of finding great fitting black dress pants as a basic staple in your wardrobe.
Being a pear shape, I struggle to find pants that fit me in the thigh. What I love about a wide leg trouser is that they provide me with enough room in the thigh that they actually look like a very clean straight leg on me. I also believe that the quality of the fabric is very important. These ones are made out of a heavy jersey and the drape on them is beautiful. And if you find a pair that you really like? I always say buy more than one pair! Classic black dress pants are never going to go out of style after all.
Finally I decided to add this fabulous faux fur vest, also from Point Zero Curvy via SexyPlus. I never thought when I saw that fur was a must have trend this fall that I would fall in love with it as much as I have. This piece is a great layering piece and would look fabulous with just about anything.
I liked the added touch of luxury that it added to what would otherwise be a simple look. Probably my favourite thing about this vest is the fact that it is a cable knit sweater in the back. It provides this cozy pattern detail but also makes it more comfortable and practical to wear. I am wearing the 3x.
To accessorize this look I decided to add a dash of colour by wearing my red patent leather flats. I absolutely love adding a hit of red to a black and white outfit. It’s the unexpected that adds interest and personality to your look. And I like the fact that they just peek out from underneath my pants.
Then I needed a dash of glam so I wore a statement black encrusted rhinestone earring from Aldo. And yes, my earrings have gold and the sweater has silver. Go ahead ladies, mix those metallics! And an easy up do for my hair helps accentuate the neckline on the sweater and the earrings.
Finally, I added something a little fun, this lip shaped black studded clutch from Torrid. It is the perfect touch of the unexpected and adds great texture to the look with it’s studs.
To me this look is casual, glam and cozy all in one. And with the chilly days in the upcoming weather forecast it should come in handy.
