Today’s post highlights one of my favourite colour combinations – black and white. It also shows how mixing different textures adds visual interest to an outfit.
For those of you who follow the blog or my Instagram feed, you know that I am a lover of colour. Even if I wear black, I tend to add a pop of colour.
But when I don’t wear colour I absolutely love mixing black and white. I think it is the sharp contrast between two classic colours that appeals to me.
When I buy pieces, I also don’t necessarily buy a whole look together. I buy individual pieces that I like, knowing that I will have something in my closet that will go with it or that I will find something to pull it together.
That is actually how this look came together. I knew I wanted to shoot some office looks for the blog and I was going through my recent fall acquisitions and it came to me.
I had just picked up this fabulous pencil skirt from Additionelle and I already had the peplum top and blazer from Torrid. And yes, all three pieces are textured!
The pencil skirt is made of a great stretch fabric that is quilted. It is also a midi length which is my personal favourite. I have a hard time finding bottoms that fit at Additionelle but this skirt goes up to a size 4x and that fit perfectly.
A peplum top is my favourite silhouette for my body type. I like that that they highlight my waist but still accommodate my hips without being bulky. This one from Torrid is a classic white with a textured fabric and a classic V neck.
This will definitely be a staple in my wardrobe and is a great basic that will go with so many things. Put on a great pair of jeans and heels or flats and you would be good to go.
I am wearing a size 4x. I could probably have sized down but with white I don’t like it to be too tight or you can see through the fabric.
And finally the jacket is this great black and white hounds tooth print from Torrid. I struggle to find jackets that fit me because of my pear shape but this one is perfect because it is a cropped length so it hits me at just the right spot. I also love that it has ¾ length sleeves.
And it is made of a knit fabric, so it stretches and moves with you. There is nothing worse than wearing a jacket for a long day at the office that may look good but is super uncomfortable. This piece is also very versatile and could be worn on casual Friday or the weekend with jeans or a denim skirt. I am wearing a 5x.
To accessorize this look I went fairly conservative in adding a silver necklace from Penningtons and my black and white Kate Spade bag.
But if you know me, I had to add one fun element and that is these beyond adorable pink Barbie flats by Torrid. If you are a lover of all things Barbie, then you must know that Torrid has a Barbie collection that has some absolutely awesome pieces. When I saw these I just couldn’t pass them up.
The collection is an online exclusive. One of the things that I love about Torrid is that they make things available to the plus size woman that in years past you would never find such as character themed collections that allow us to express ourselves and our individuality. Just because we are a plus size doesn’t mean we don’t want that right like any other girl!
Work is a big part of our life and I fully believe that going to work in a fabulous outfit will make any day better. So have fun with your wardrobe and enjoy it!
