Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all have an awesome weekend!
In this post I am channeling a mix of retro and modern elements with the star of the show being this full circle skirt from SWAK Design’s “Curvy Kitten” collection.
This Pin Up collection is vintage inspired with 50’s silhouettes and fun prints. I was pretty much in love with the entire collection as soon as I saw it.
My normal tendency with this skirt would be to wear a simple shirt tucked in and call it a day. It would be an every day work look. But I decided to play it against something unexpected with this sexy shirt that I recently purchased from Torrid.
I have a natural eye for colour and I knew the teal would be a perfect match to the skirt. And I loved the idea of the sexy back and the lace detail versus what I would call a “good girl” skirt.
This is the June skirt in the Grey Astro print. The skirt is made with high quality fabric with a 98% cotton and 2% spandex blend to provide that little bit of stretch. It hits below the knee which is my preferred length and has a nice comfortable wide waist band.
I love the fact that it has a cute button detail at the back which is stylish but also practical. There are 2 buttons so it allows you to adjust the waist if necessary. I am wearing the 4x but I could have sized down, the fit is very generous.
If I had seen this shirt last year at this time, I would have immediately passed it by because of the fact that the back is so revealing. I mean you can see my bra – oh my!
But my style has evolved and I don’t care, I loved the detail and so what if you can see my bra, it’s not like someone isn’t going to know I am wearing one anyway. And I even didn’t care that it was black!
Normally I would be a tad OCD and would want to wear a matching coloured bra. But I have discovered that throwing caution to the wind can be extremely liberating and I think that shows in the pictures of this look.
In reality if I want to cover my bra, I can wear a bralette or cami. And yes, maybe this isn’t office appropriate but I have other options in my closet that will make this skirt work ready in a flash.
I am wearing a 4x in this shirt. Since the skirt is so full I needed to define my waist but I also didn’t want to hide the lace detail so I opted to knot the top in the front and show a little skin.
To accessorize this look I added one of my favourite necklaces from Symone Kelly that plays into the vintage aspect of the skirt with the pearls and flower. It’s a pretty feminine touch.
I kept it simple with my new rose gold flats from Lane Bryant and some lose flowing curls. I think this is the perfect flirty date night look.
So…have I inspired you to take a risk? Are you feeling a little retro inspiration? I hope so!
Now that you have made it all the way to the end of the post I am thrilled to share my exciting news! I recently found out that I was chosen to be a SWAK Brand Ambassador!!!! I am beyond excited to be working with one of my favourite brands to show you all the reasons I fell in love with them and also to be able to support a brand that carries up to a size 6x. Be on the lookout for more great posts and pics on Instagram. Please tag me if you are rocking your SWAK, I would love to see!
