I wouldn’t exactly consider myself a rule breaker in general, I mean I am an accountant after all, but I do often go against the grain when it comes to fashion.
So with today being two days after labour day, you shouldn’t be surprised that the topic of this blog is wearing white!
I’ll admit that I haven’t owned a white dress in years nor do I typically wear all white but this spring and summer, white was everywhere and it seems everyone was wearing it. And on top of that everyone is having white parties now so us gals are in need of more options!
During my shopping travels I came across two dresses in white that caught my eye. The first one is this easy breezy maxi dress by Lane Bryant. The fabric is very lightweight and I liked that the lining was shorter which allowed for movement and a flowy feel.
What I liked most about this dress was the texture of the fabric, I feel like it gives the dress visual interest. And the straps have a unique cut out detail. I am wearing this dress in a size 26/28 and it fits true to size.
I did have to be true to my love of colour and decided to add that necessary pop with this multi-coloured fluorescent necklace from Additionelle. This piece has turned out to be a great investment as I have been able to pair it with many outfits.
I then added a white sandal with a little touch of bling from Avenue and a black and white animal print clutch for that fun element.
I think this will be a great look for my upcoming Caribbean cruise.
The second look is this fun skater dress by Torrid. A skater dress is a great option for someone with my body type because it is fitted up top and has a full skirt that allows for ample room for my lower half. It is also a pretty universal flattering fit.
In my journey of going outside my comfort zone, I have become more and more comfortable with showing my knees and wearing dresses that are a little shorter than I normally would. I feel like the length on this one is perfect.
Something that this dress has in common with the other one is the texture of the fabric. It is a floral like brocade. My favourite thing about this dress is that it is actually a really nice shade of off white so you can change up your accessories and wear it all year round. It also has a cute criss cross cut out in the back. I am wearing a 4x.
In this case, I chose to remain true to colour and added this lovely pop of blue in this necklace by Lane Bryant.
I then kept the same shoes and added a white and silver sparkle wristlet from Coach.
My advice? Don’t let the so called “rules” define your fashion choices. Wear what makes you feel great! Fashion should be a reflection of your personality so if you want to wear white after labour day, go for it!
If you want to wear a body con dress that shows your visible belly outline or a crop top that shows your stomach, that is your prerogative. Wear all black because you love it or don’t wear it at all because you grew up being told that is all you should wear because it is “slimming”. The more we take back our right to decide how we dress our bodies, the more society will have to give up on these damn rules.
The forecast is calling for a sweltering 33C today, maybe I should wear one of these dresses…
If you are in the market for a white dress, Torrid has many options still available right now and they are on sale! I have attached links below for some of my faves.
